Genealogy Circle

The August Genealogy Circle is August 13th at the History Center, 6:30-8 pm.  The program is how to identify and date photos as well as how to care for and preserve them. Gail Price will be giving the program. 

Call the History Center at 217-728-4085 to register Tuesday - Friday 10-3, Saturday 10-2. Join them for the evening no matter what experience level with genealogy.

Drive-thru dinner

Sullivan’s First United Methodist Church will be hosting a drive-thru dinner on Friday, August 30th from 4:30 to 6pm. This will be happening at the church on 216 W. Jefferson Street in Sullivan. It is an advance sale only of $12 per meal or meal ticket. The tickets can be bought ahead of time from any of the following volunteers: Jenee Purkes, Cindy Guin, Bob and Teresa Lane, Bob Freeman, Katrina Murphy, Jeanette Suding, Julie Misa, Karen Dwyer and Korin Beckwith. The meal provided will be pulled pork BBQ, cheesy potatoes, seasoned green beans and a brownie. All funds or donations will be going to the Ellen Winskill Bernius Low Cost Spay and Neuter Fund Administered by Moultrie County Illinois PAWS.  PAWS is a program which is dedicated to enriching the lives of companion animals in Moultrie County, they assist in spaying and neutering both dogs and cats throughout the county. They also provide basic vet procedures such as flea treatment, rabies vaccines and ear mites, keeping pets clean and healthy for a low cost. Community Blood Drive

Agri Fab Inc. will host a Community Blood Drive with ImpactLife, the provider of blood components for local hospitals. The blood drive will be from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on Tuesday, August 13 at 809 S Hamilton St, inside Gold Classroom

To donate, contact ImpactLife Urbana at (800) 747 5401 or visit www.bloodcenter.org and use code 71025 to locate the drive. Appointments are requested. Potential donors must be at least 17 years of age (16 with parental permission form available through www.bloodcenter.org) and weigh more than 110 pounds. A photo I.D. is required to donate. For questions about eligibility, please call ImpactLife at (800) 747 5401. Donors who last gave blood on or before 6/18/24 are eligible to give at this drive.  Blood donation is a safe, simple procedure that takes about 45 minutes to one hour.  Individuals with diabetes or controlled high blood pressure may be accepted as eligible donors. All donors will receive an ImpactLife Reward Voucher for their choice of either an EGift Card $20 whole blood/$25 double reds-Target, Starbucks, Amazon, Walmart etc., use Bonus Points in our online Rewards Store or direct a donation to Make A Wish Illinois.

Relief Sale ice cream Social

The Arthur Mennonite Relief Sale’s annual ice cream social will be held at Arthur Community Building on Monday, August 5th from 5-8 p.m. Pulled pork BBQ sandwiches and chips will be offered along with cake and cobblers and homemade ice cream. Donations will be accepted, and the funds raised will be used to cover pre-sale expenses such as advertising, paper goods, etc. Come and enjoy the great food.

Sullivan school registration

Sullivan Schools Registration began online on July 18th, while in-person registration will be opening on July 24th and 25th from 8am to 3pm. In-person registration need to report to the building office. School supply lists can be found on FaceBook by visiting the Sullivan Elementary School PTO page.

Dove’s Support group

Caregiver Advisory Program

Mid-Illinois Senior Services, Inc. offers Caregiver Advisory Programs that covers caregivers & grandparents or other relatives raising grandchildren/children in Moultrie, Douglas and Shelby Counties.

Caregiver support groups meet the first Thursday of the month at Mid-Illinois Senior Services in Sullivan at 1:00-2:30pm and the second Thursday of the month at 9:00am at the Arthur Public Library.

Grandparents/relatives raising grandchildren/children program meet the first Thursday of the month at Mid-Illinois Senior Services in Sullivan 2:30-3:30pm.

Windsor upcoming events

Windsor Elementary is offering even more events for the summer. July 26th there will be the Scoville Mobile Zoo at the Elementary School. Scoville Mobile Zoo offers a safe but close exploration and education of animals that children can experience first hand. From educational courses to fun facts, Scoville Mobile Zoo has many activities for the children to not waste a moment with the animals. August 2nd the University of Illinois will be in Windsor with the science bus, a mobile laboratory where children can learn fun science facts and do experiments. All programs will be provided at the school during lunch, from 11am to 1pm.

Pre-K Camps

The SDS Preschool is offering pre-k childrens summer camps every Tuesday this summer, starting at 9am and running until 11:30. These camps will be hosted by Teacher Miss Jeannie Ruppert and held at the Sullivan Dance Studio. Campers and parents should expect engaging and fun activities, small class sizes and learning. The fee is $20 per camp. The Preschool mission states, “Providing a nurturing environment that promotes learning and development of the whole child, including spiritual, social, and academic”. The remaining camps for this summer are: 7/23- Rainbow Reading, 7/30- Sweet Shapes and 8/6- Super Science.

The Moultrie-Douglas County Fair Pageant will be held Monday, July 27th at 6:00 p.m. for Little Miss Fair Queen and 7:00 p.m. for Miss and Junior Miss Fair Queen located at the south track on the Mo-Do Fairgrounds. Vying for the title of Miss Moultrie Douglas Fair Queen are: Abigail Meyer of Tuscola, Addee Mulligan of Arcola, Sarah Rogers of Atwood, Ava Whitson of Tuscola, Addisyn Wilson of Villa Grove, Emma Spillman of Tuscola, Aymara Leal of Arcola and Katilyn Kirby of Sullivan.
