Millikin Honors Convocation

The Millikin University community gathered for the annual Honors Convocation and Distinguished Faculty Lecture on Thursday, April 25, at Kirkland Fines Arts Center to honor faculty, staff and student accomplishments as the academic year approaches its close.

Over 125 awards were presented to Millikin students and faculty who were honored for their commitment to academic excellence. Many awards have been created to distinguish alums from Millikin’s past. Among those honored were Reagan Crouse, of Sullivan, receiving the Modern Languages Linguistic Excellence Award and Colton Middleton, of Lovington, receiving the Percussion Achievement Award.

Concert

Rick Alan King from Nashville, Tennessee will be in concert on Saturday, June 8 at 6 pm at Allenville Christian Church, 201 Allen Street in Allenville. Following the concert there will be finger food fellowship. A love offering will be collected.

Concert on the lawn

A Contemporary Christian Music Concert will be held on the lawn of the Bethany Free Methodist Church, 312 W. Main, Bethany on June 14. Music by the Encounter Church Band of East Peoria begins at 7:00pm.

Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Snacks and drinks provided.

Simon Hunter graduates

Simon Hunter of Sullivan graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology - General Track from Blackburn College during the institution’s 155th Commencement ceremony on May 11. Hunter also received department honors in their academic field of study, served as President of the student organization Spectrum, and was inducted into the Alpha Chi National Honor Scholarship Society.

Jonathon Creek Christian Church will hold Children to Scuba VBS: Diving into friendship with God from June 10-14. Scuba is for children 3 years to fifth grade and will run from 5 to 8 p.m. each day. For more information call (217) 620-0810

JuneFest

The Village of Lovington will hold their JuneFest event on June 8 at Thomas L. Conn Park from 4-7 p.m. Free kids entertainment will be provided including a bounce house, face painting, obstacle house, dry slide, rock wall, extreme air and nichols power wheel derby and races. The Lovington Community Club will hold its annual Fish Fry starting at 4:30 p.m. in the pavillion. Cost is $10 for adults, $4 children five and up, $2 children four and under. As always, Veterans eat free. From 6 to 9 p.m. there will also be several food trucks on the grounds of the Lovington Grade School, a DJ and at dusk fireworks will take place.

Dash and Bash Car Show

The Sullivan Street Machine Association will host the St. Jude Dash and Bash Car Show in Wyman Park, Sullivan on Saturday June 8.Registration begins at 10 a.m., the show is from 11 to 1:30 p.m. with awards presented at 2:30. Windsor CleanUp

Windsor will hold the annual city cleanup day on Saturday, June 8 from 7 a.m. to noon. The dumpsters will be located at the old street shed, volunteers will pick up items at peoples homes if the owner is unable to drop off. Items must be out by the road by 8 a.m. No paint, electronics or batteries will be accepted. Appliances will cost $5 each, tires without rims $5 each and tires with rims and semi tire $10 each.

LLC celebrates nursing graduates

Graduating nurses received their pins at the 2024 Lake Land College Associate Degree Nursing pinning ceremony.

The Patient Advocate Award was presented to Emma Moran, Sullivan, for displaying professionalism and compassionate care in the Associate Degree Nurse program.

Receiving pins were Carleigh Bobbett of Findlay, Jerralee Goad, Emma Moran, Ashley Prideaux, Haley Rose and Danielle Standerfer all of Sullivan.
