Mobile Food Pantry

The University of Illinois Extension in cooperating partnership with Decatur Catholic Charities and Sullivan United Methodist Church will hold a mobile food pantry on Wednesday, October 26 from 4 to 5 pm at the Sullivan United Methodist Church, 216 W. Jefferson, Sullivan (across from the firehouse). A mobile food pantry delivers a two week supply of food per family in rural communities. Any individual or family that does not have a steady food supply qualifies to receive food. No financial information is required to qualify. This distribution is open to all not only residents of Sullivan. Deadline to sign up is by 4:30 pm on Friday, October 21. Call 217-728-4436, 217-855-3933 or 217-728-3933 to sign up. Once your form is completed by phone, you will be given a number to bring with you on the day of distribution. If you lose your number, you need to bring identification. The food will be distributed according to household size on Friday, October 28 from 4 pm to 5 pm at the Methodist Church in parking lot across the street.

Blood Drive

Bethany Senior Citizens Potluck

There will be a Bethany Senior Citizens Potluck on Wednesday, October 19 at 11 am at the Bethany Firehouse. Bring a covered dish. Ice tea and coffee furnished. All are welcome.

First Responders Appreciation Cookout

Sullivan IGA will be having a First Responders Appreciation Cookout on Thursday, October 6 from 11 am to 1 pm. Menu is thin sliced rib eye sandwich $6.00, tenderized pork chop sandwich $4.00, coke or bottled water $1.00, 2 bags of chips $1.00. All local police, fire, paramedics and Moultrie County Dive Team get a free sandwich, chips and drink.

Moultrie Douglas County Meeting

The annual Co-County meeting will be held on Thursday, October 13 at Arthur United Methodist Church, 128 E. Illinois, Arthur. Registration begins at 1 pm with the program starting at 1:30 pm. Jodi Davis will be the speaker for the afternoon program on Italy. This is the country for the year for the Prairie Association for Home and Community Education. There is a big parking lot behind the church with an easy entry into the fellowship hall with no steps. Refreshments will be served. The public is invited to attend.

Sullivan Show Choirs Fall Revue

The Sullivan Singers and Singers Jr. will present their Fall Revue on Saturday, October 15 at 7 pm and Sunday, October 16 at 2 pm in the SHS gymnasium. Tickets can be purchased at the door. General admission is $10, students and seniors $5 and free for children ages 5 and under.

Recreation Area Closings at Lake Shelbyville

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will hold a youth deer hunt at Lake Shelbyville on October 8 & 9, 2022. The hunt will be conducted in portions of recreation areas previously closed for the season. As a safety precaution Lone Point Campground and Whitley Creek Recreation Areas, excluding the boat ramps and all of Wilborn Creek, Sullivan Beach, and Opossum Creek Recreation Areas will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic from 2:00 p.m. October 7, 2022 to 8:00 p.m. October 9, 2022.
These closings include boat ramps located within Opossum Creek and Wilborn Creek Recreation Areas. Ramps remaining open during this period include those in Dam West, Lone Point, Lithia Springs, Whitley Creek and Bo Wood Recreation Areas, Wolf Creek and Eagle Creek State Parks and all secondary ramps.

The Moultrie-Douglas County Fair Pageant will be held Monday, July 27th at 6:00 p.m. for Little Miss Fair Queen and 7:00 p.m. for Miss and Junior Miss Fair Queen located at the south track on the Mo-Do Fairgrounds. Vying for the title of Miss Moultrie Douglas Fair Queen are: Abigail Meyer of Tuscola, Addee Mulligan of Arcola, Sarah Rogers of Atwood, Ava Whitson of Tuscola, Addisyn Wilson of Villa Grove, Emma Spillman of Tuscola, Aymara Leal of Arcola and Katilyn Kirby of Sullivan.
