A pork chop dinner will be served on Saturday, July 6 at the United Methodist Church fellowship hall in Hammond. Serving time is 4:30-7 p.m. and a meal including a pork chop sandwich, baked beans, chips, dessert and drink is $10. Take-outs and family rates are also available. The church is located at 3rd and D Streets.

Soyland Access to Independent Living, SAIL, is hosting a Transportation and Benefit Access Application Workshop on Tuesday, July 2 from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. at the Shelby County Senior Center, 325 E. North 9th St., Shelbyville. The presenters are Nathan Nichols, Central Illinois Public Transportation, CIPT and Betty Watkins, SAIL Rural Outreach Coordinator, speaking on the Benefits Access Application (BAA).

July 1st through the 4th at Wyman Park, Sullivan will be hosting their annual 4th of July Celebration. There is a new carnival in town, this year the carnival will be hosted by The Carnival Company from Gratis, Ohio. The carnival will be open from 5 to 11pm Monday through Wednesday and 12-5 & 6-11 on Thursday, save money with the armband presale at the Legion for $22 before July 1st. On the 4th there will be a parade at noon followed by watermelon eating contest and sack races and turtle races starting at 2pm. Last but not least, the night is finished with the the fireworks display at dusk. This years 4th of July Celebration is sponsored by the Sullivan Area Merchants and Sullivan American Legion Post #68.

Isaac Dickens of Sullivan has graduated from Rhodes College with a Bachelor of Science in Biology.
The 175th Commencement Exercises of Rhodes College took place on campus May 11. The college conferred 406 degrees, including the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Master of Science in Accounting, and Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Health Equity.

Three SHS softball teammates were recently selected to the LPC All-Conference Softball team. The players were Aeralyn Thrasher (2nd Team), Tabitha Webb (2nd Team) and Harmony Ray (Honorable Mention).
On the boys side, named to the Baseball All Conference team were Jake Stewart (1st Team), Adan Mills (2nd Team), Cameron Crowe (2nd Team), Schafer Ogle (Honorable Mention) and Tristan Wright (Honorable Mention).

Sunday July 28th, downtown Dalton City will be hosting the annual all wheel extravaganza from 12 to 5pm. Registration starts at 10am with a $15 registrations fee. There will be goodie bags handed out to the first 150 to enter. There will be food trucks, music, a silent auction, door prizes, 50/50 and other venders. There will be a breast cancer benefit for Krissy Davis on Friday July 26th from 6 to 10pm. There will be a raffle, silent auction, music, food, t-shirts and a bags tournament. Teams must register in advance by calling Sheri at (217)-254-3327. The bags tournaments is teams of two and is double elimination, the games will start at 4 pm.

More than 4,450 graduates received degrees from Iowa State University this spring. Graduate and undergraduate commencement ceremonies were held May 9-11 at Hilton Coliseum. Savannah Birch, of Bethany, received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
