Local Farmer Directs America’s Farmers Grow Communities Donation To OVHS FFA

Local farmer Michael Reedy recently directed a $2,500 Bayer Fund America’s Farmers Grow Communities donation to Okaw Valley High School FFA.
Since 2010, the America’s Farmers programs have awarded more than $59 million to community nonprofits, aspiring ag students and public schools across rural America. Deer Hunting

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) announced today that it is taking applications from youth firearm deer hunters and youth and adult archery deer hunters for Fall 2021 deer hunting on private land through the Illinois Recreational Access Program (IRAP).

SCED Elf Hunt

The Sullivan Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development have announced plans for this year’s Elf Hunt. Ways that a person can participate include sponsoring an elf sign, which can be done by businesses and individuals this year. When you receive your sign, you hang it in your business window or place outside where it’s easy to see and safe for people to take a photo with it. Organizations or businesses that don’t have a place to display an elf sign can ask about having their sign placed by the SCED office. Members without a physical location to diplay will be displayed in a public location. Every photo posted to the SCED Facebook page of a person, pet or family in front of a sponsors Elf sign is an entry into the contest to win prizes. More elf sightings equals more prizes. If you would like to sponsor an Elf Hunt sign for $20 please contact the SCED by September 30.
Lake Land College to Host Introductory Court Reporting Class

Lake Land College will host a court reporting First Steps class on July 28 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Webb Hall, room 081. The class is a free three-hour introductory course and is open to anyone interested in learning about the court reporting profession.
Attendees will learn about the career opportunities available to court reporters, as well as have the opportunity to gain experience on the industry-standard steno machine.
The class will also allow attendees to ask questions and explore the possibility of pursuing a career in court reporting.

Dr Selvidge Conducts Biblical Health Series

Dr. Don Selvidge, retired Mattoon chiropractor, is conducting a Biblical Health and Healing Series at the 407 Grant Street Church of Christ in Sullivan each Thursday at 7 PM. The discussion class will explore what the Bible teaches about staying healthy and getting well when sick.
After graduation from Harding University in 1968,vthe Selvidges served at Namwianga mission and in village evangelism in Kalomo, Zambia, Africa. After returning from Africa, Dr. Don worked as a teacher and school counselor. In 1978 Dr. Don and Dr. Nancy attended Logan University where they received their chiropractic degrees in 1982. SCED and Regional Economic Development Groups Win State Grant

Sullivan Chamber and Economic Development and a consortium of regional economic development organizations have won a Community Navigator Grant to support local businesses hardest hit by the pandemic. Governor JB Pritzker and the office of Economic Opportunity announced the local consortium will receive money to provide professional outreach to companies facing barriers to capital access and financing opportunities.

Lake Shelbyville Tree Stand Permits Now Available for Deer Season

Lake Shelbyville’s Tree Stand Policy for this year will remain the same as it was last season. The policy allows hunters to leave one stand up for the season (“Seasonal Tree Stand”) and/or utilize up to two “Roving” stands that can be left up during archery season for a period not to exceed a break in use greater than 72 hours – the length of a 3 day weekend. Seasonal tree stands may be placed 2 weeks prior to archery season and must be removed within 2 weeks of archery season ending. Archery season runs from October 1, 2021 - January 16, 2022. Read More

Findlay Walleye Fest. 3 on 3 Tourney

The Findlay Walleye Festival 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament, in memory of Angela Marie Diss, will be held on Saturday, July 24 at 11 am at Findlay Park. There are three divisions, division one is for participants entering 5th, 6th and 7th grade; division two is for participants entering 8th, 9th, and 11th grades; and division 3 is a new bragging rights division for participants entering 11th grade through adults.
