Master Sgt. Kessler has been a mainstay in the 634th Brigade Support Battalion, said Lt. Col. Stacey Walker, Commander of the 634th Brigade Support Battalion based in Sullivan.
“When I first joined this unit as a platoon leader many years ago, there was Master Sgt. Kessler. Then, years later, when I came back as Commander, there was Master Sgt. Kessler.”
Kessler’s knowledge and expertise with the 634th BSB and with his previous unit, B Co., 2nd Battalion, 130th Infantry Regiment based in Effingham, was invaluable to the officers of those units as well as the hundreds of soldiers he mentored over the years, Walker said. Read More

Eastview Terrace has announced that Administrator Lacy Mossman has become a Certified Dementia Practitioner through the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners.
Mossman is a lifelong resident of Sullivan where she resides with her husband Matthew and their sons Kellan, 5, and Eli, 2. She attended Millikin University where she majored in elementary education and was a member of Alpha Chi Omega. Long-term care was never the plan for Mossman as she says she “fell into it by accident”. Her grandmother was a long-term care nurse and encouraged her to start work as a unit aide when she was in college. That was it, long-term care became her passion. She started her career with Petersen Health Care at Sullivan Rehab before accepting the position as activity director at Eastview Terrace in 2012. Lacy held many titles at Eastview before becoming administrator in 2015. Read More

Community Service Award accepted by (from left) Cheryl Cobb, Robert Cobb for Rock Solid Chapel and Board Chairperson Jean Finley.

•October 3, 2018•

C.E.F.S. Economic Opportunity Corporation recently showcased their 53rd year of accomplishments that demonstrated that community action helps people and changes lives. During the 2018 annual meeting some very special people and organizations were recognized as valuable community partners who enhanced the level of service to those in need.
According to C.E.F.S. Chief Executive Officer Kevin Bushur, “Without community partners like Solid Rock Chapel it would have been difficult to attain and achieve the agency outcomes and successes.”
In 2014, Solid Rock Chapel began a community garden on the church grounds run by volunteers. The volunteers who tend the garden plant more than enough vegetables to feed themselves, with the intention of sharing with the C.E.F.S. Moultrie County Outreach Food Pantry. The volunteers bring a wide variety of fresh produce including sweet corn, green beans, squash, tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, peppers, and a variety of lettuce. The fresh produce is delivered to the Outreach Food Pantry by volunteers once a week and sometimes twice a week. The Outreach Food Pantry usually provides canned vegetables in the food boxes because they do not have the available resources to provide fresh produce. Solid Rock Chapel’s community garden fills this void. Read More

Moultrie County Clerk Georgia England stated that it has been brought to her attention that in a couple of neighboring counties individuals have recently received phone calls from persons impersonating an organization that provides voter registration assistance mentioning the Clerk’s office and the Clerk’s name. The callers asked the recipients if they wanted to register to vote or request an absentee ballot over the phone. The Moultrie County Clerk’s office does not generate these phone calls nor will the office ever call asking people to register to vote over the phone. Read More

Poppies to honor those who gave all

News Progress

On Friday, May 22nd, Ruth Keown, Vice-President of the Sullivan American Legion Auxiliary Unit 68, greeted the public at the entrance to the local Post Office, distributing Memorial Poppies. Each year, millions of Americans wear these Memorial Poppies in memory of American service members who lost their lives in war while serving their country, and to assist those Veterans who are now hospitalized or in rehabilitation, suffering from wounds and illnesses. Memorial Day poppies distributed by the American Legion symbolize the ultimate sacrifice made by service members and are a tribute to those who lost their lives in war. Wearing the poppy is a way to honor the fallen and ensure their bravery is never forgotten.
