Stockholders Approval for Merger of First Mid-Illinois Bancshares and First Clover Leaf Financial Corp.

First Mid-Illinois Bancshares, Inc. (Nasdaq: FMBH) (“First Mid” or the “Company”) and First Clover Leaf Financial Corp. (Nasdaq: FCLF) (“First Clover Leaf”) announced that on August 31 each company’s stockholders voted in favor of the merger between the two companies. Oktoberfest 2016 Back Bigger & Better Than Ever

The 13th Annual Oktoberfest is back bigger and better than ever. This year’s festival will be held 6-11 p.m. Friday October 14 and noon-11 p.m. Saturday, October 15. Bring the entire family out for some fall festival fun.

Friday night festivities include arts, crafts and food vendors.

The Sullivan Area Arts Council (SAARTS) will host Artoberfest at Cathrine’s Gallery Gifts & More. A highlight to the festival this year, the Oktoberfest wine tasting at 5 West is open 6-9 p.m. The Oktoberfest beer tent will be open Friday night from 6-11 p.m. Ryan Ideus & the Feudin Hillbillies will rock the beer tent 8-11 p.m. Read More

Lloyd Maurer of Sullivan shot his third hole-in-one Monday afternoon at Sullivan Country Club. Maurer was using an eight-iron on the 150-yard fourth hole when he and fellow golfers, Bill Roley, Dutch Horton and Gil Crawford, watched it drop in the hole.

C. Alan Horn shot a hole-in-one Sept. 12 at Spring Creek Golf Course in Ladd. Horn was participating in a golf outing sponsored by the Great American Insurance Co. and playing with Dutch Ericsson, the CEO of the company when he sank the ball on the 132-yard seven hole with a pitching iron.

The Bethany Mustangs victory over the Atwood-Hammond Rajahs can be described in many different ways—sweet, satisfying, necessary, finally and most of all well-earned. Steve VanLoon, whose game was vastly improved in all areas, started the game with a kick to the Rajahs who found themselves on their own 38-yard line. Four plays later first year coach Scott Bales opted to go for the first down, and again the Rajahs were introduced to the new Steve VanLoon. The third period ended with Bethany leading 20-8, and no-one scored in the fourth quarter. Read More

OV School District Board Candidate Packets Available

Moultrie County Clerk Georgia England has announced that Okaw Valley CUSD #302 Board candidate packets for the April 4, 2017 Consolidated Election will be available for pickup September 19 in the Moultrie County Clerk’s office located in the Courthouse, 10 S. Main, Ste. 6 in Sullivan.

Candidate petitions for Okaw Valley School Board cannot be circulated for signatures until Tuesday September 20, 2016. Filing of petitions will be in the county clerk’s office beginning Monday December 12, 2016 to Monday December 19. Hours of filing are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. except on the last day of filing when the office will remain open until 5 p.m. If two or more candidates file their petitions simultaneously as of the opening hour of the filing period (December 12) or within the last hour of the filing period (December 19), a lottery will be held December 21 at 9 a.m. in the county clerk’s office to determine candidate placement on the April 4, 2017 Consolidated ballot. One Traffic Fatality in August for ISP District

Illinois State Police District 10 announced that during the month of August troopers handled 1966 incidents. Three hundred forty-eight of those incidents were calls for service and assistance. Of these calls, 135 were to help motorists whose vehicles were disabled on area highways. Troopers stopped for a total of 333 motorist assist incidents and handled 83 crash reports, one of which was a fatal crash resulting in one death.

Criminal activities during the month included 34 arrests for criminal offenses. Troopers arrested 16 for drug charges and issued 13 citations for weapon violations. Read More

Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs Assists Veterans Impacted by ITT Technical Institute Closing

The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs (IDVA)-Veterans Education and Training Section (State Approving Agency) took immediate action to assist Illinois Veterans impacted in their educational endeavors due to the closing of the ITT Technical Institute.

“Our number one priority is the welfare of our Illinois Heroes and their families. When we received word of the closing of ITT Technical Institute, we contacted all veterans enrolled in that school to assist them to continue their education,” said Erica Jeffries, Director of the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs. Lake Shelbyville Recreation Area Closing Dates

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has determined the season closing dates of campgrounds and beaches at Lake Shelbyville.

- Opossum Creek Campground closed for the season Tuesday, September 6.

- Lone Point Campground closed for the season Tuesday, September 6 except for campsites 86 through 95, which will close Thursday, December 1.

- Coon Creek Campground closes for the season Monday, October 10 and Lithia Springs Campground Sunday, October 30. Read More

Sullivan Elementary School recently received 60 backpacks filled with school supplies through Amazon’s “Together, We Give Back to School” campaign. End of the Line Tackle & Bait, an Amazon delivery partner, nominated Sullivan Elementary for the program, and the school’s submission was selected to receive the donation.
