State Treasurer Dan Rutherford Promotes Items for Upcoming Unclaimed Property Holiday Auction

A diamond elephant pin, a Liberty Head gold piece, and a lot of vintage baseball cards are just some of the items that Illinois State Treasurer Dan Rutherford is offering in the next Illinois Treasurer’s Online Unclaimed Property Auction. It started at 10 a.m. Monday, November 18 and will begin closing at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 22. Phelps Elected VP of Student Council District

Attending the Eastern Illinois District Association of Student Councils 79th annual district convention at Eastern Illinois University Tuesday, Sullivan High School junior Beretta Phelps was elected as the district's vice-president.

Phelps, who also serves as Sullivan's vice-president, will serve in her role for the third largest district in the state.

The  Eastern district, of which Sullivan is a member, is made up of 16 other schools including Windsor, Okaw Valley, Mattoon, Effingham, Shelbyville, Altamont, and Paris, among others.

Phelps will be officially sworn in at the December meeting, replacing outgoing Kristen Frohning of Newton.

October Rainfall Helps Soil Dryness

Precipitation was near normal for the month of October in Illinois, at a statewide average of 3.2 inches. The long-term average, or normal, for October is 3.26 inches of precipitation, according to Illinois State Climatologist Jim Angel at the Illinois State Water Survey, Prairie Research Institute, University of Illinois. “Together, We Give Back to School”

Sullivan Elementary School recently received 60 backpacks filled with school supplies through Amazon’s “Together, We Give Back to School” campaign. End of the Line Tackle & Bait, an Amazon delivery partner, nominated Sullivan Elementary for the program, and the school’s submission was selected to receive the donation. Pictured (left to right) are Cameron Martin, Taylor Lilly, James Martin, Marla Martin and Angela McRill following the July 27 delivery.
