Dove’s Moultrie County Domestic Violence Program recognized Darby Poe of Moultrie Counseling during their October 19 candlelighting ceremony in Sullivan. She was recognized for her compassionate work with participants of the program.

Windsor September Students of the Month
Windsor Jr./Sr. High School recently announced their September Students of the Month Aspen Spinner and Ainslie Eident. Aspen Spinner is the granddaughter of Rayette and Don Woolard. She is currently a 7th grade student and is involved in volleyball and cheer. She wants to one day become a forensic pathologist. In her spare time, she loves to read and hang out with her friends. Ainslie Eident is the daughter of Michelle and Calvin Schultz and Derrick and Mary Eident. She is a senior and is involved in volleyball, cheer, Student Council Vice President, National Honor Society Vice President, Senior Class Vice President. She is also involved in her church’s youth group, is 4-H Club President and a member of the Junior Auxiliary. After graduation she plans to pursue a degree in athletic training. Storyteller Visits Arthur Library
Storyteller Kathleen Brinkman of Champaign visited Arthur Library on Saturday, September 23. She has been telling multicultural stories for 20 years. Prior to retirement, Brinkman worked at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana as the Director of Career Services for the biotechnology center. She likes to incorporate interesting stories for children into her programs while mixing in jokes that adults would like as well. Brinkman said that she has always told stories and that she is part of a storytelling guild. She noted that being a member of a storytelling guild has helped nurture her storytelling skills. Brinkman is pictured using a limber jack to tell one of the stories during the program.

Honor Blood Drive for Jodi Phelps
An Honor Blood Drive for Jodi Phelps was held on Saturday, September 9 at the Sullivan American Legion. 90 units of blood were collected during the drive. There were several donors that reached milestones for gallons of blood donated. Lucia Roney has given 17 gallons of blood and Terrie Punches has given 16 gallons of blood. Coffee On The Co-Op
Coles Moultrie Electric Co-Op wrapped up their Coffee on the Co-Op program on Wednesday, August 30 at Sweet Vail in Sullivan. The organization kicked off the program in April and included stops in Mattoon, Charleston, Casey, Neoga and Sullivan. The program gave members the opportunity to chat about the co-op, ask questions, meet fellow members while enjoying free coffee. The Village of Lovington swore in Dennis Garmon (right) as their new village president to fill out the remainder of Roger Walker’s (left) term on Monday, August 28. Walker moved out of town recently so he is no longer able to serve as village president.

Two Story Outhouse Festival In Gays
The Two Story Outhouse Festival was held in Gays on Saturday, August 12. A pageant was added to this year’s event which had three participants that received crowns and sashes. The opening ceremony included the cutting of the TP by a couple that have been residents of Gays for many years. This year’s Kidz Korner included inflatables, pony rides, games and face painting. Food and craft vendors lined the road offering a variety of foods and craft vendors offered items for sale such as t-shirts, tumblers, wreaths, jewelry and other items. Live entertainment that day was provided by the band Katzmandu and The Kate Brothers. This year’s festival was in memory of Tammy Howard. This year Brayden Armstrong, 12, also published a single page newspaper called the Poop Scoop specifically for the Two Story Outhouse Festival. He wrote the newspaper to give visitors to the festival updates and information about the event.
