On Monday, May 1 the new Sullivan City Council was sworn in at the Moultrie County Courthouse by Judge Jeremy Richey. Sullivan Chamber and Economic Development Luncheon
The Sullivan Chamber and Economic Development held a luncheon at the Moultrie County Historical and Genealogical Society Center on Thursday, April 13. Guest speaker for the event was Darby Poe of Moultrie County Counseling Center. After the luncheon, attendees could tour the museum and library at the center.

Angler’s Tribute to Veterans Crappie Tournament
On Saturday, April 8 the Angler’s Tribute to Veterans Crappie Tournament was held on Lake Shelbyville. The event took off from Whitley Ramp and weigh in at Findlay Ramp. Each boat was required to have at least one veteran in it. Coming in first place for the tournament and big fish were Jim Garrett and veteran Nick Saupe.

Desserts with Dove was held at Sullivan First United Methodist Church on Thursday, March 23. The event gave members of the community the opportunity to meet staff members who work in Moultrie County and learn about the organization’s programs and ways to volunteer. Dove, Inc. offers a variety of programs including financial assistance, Homeward Bound, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), Domestic Violence Program and others. How to Make Edible Spheres
Abagail Dean uses a dropper to make boba at Elizabeth Titus Memorial Library on Friday, March 17. The edible spheres are often used in bubble tea or other drinks and contain juice inside. For the purposes of the program participants used lemonade and fruit punch.

One Book, One Sullivan held their community discussion on Tuesday, March 7 at Sullivan United Methodist Church. There were about 70 students and community members in attendance for their 16th annual meeting. This year’s book was The Blackbird Girls by Anne Blankman.

A chili cookoff was held at the Bethany American Legion on Saturday, February 25. There were thirteen entries. Winners were first place-Mark and Judy Seeley, second place-Kathy Tipsword, third place-Troy Stockdale, Most Unique-Kathy’s White Chicken Chili, Hottest-Mark Allen’s Traditional and Crowd Favorite-Kelsey Knopp’s Traditional.

Moultrie County Spelling Bee
The Moultrie County Spelling Bee was held on Thursday, February 16 at the Little Theatre On The Square. Spellers from Sullivan Elementary and Junior High and Lovington Grade participated in the bee. The top speller that will be moving on to the next level is Macee Boddy (right). Runner up was John Williams IV (left). Both are students at Lovington Grade School.

Mid-Illinois Senior Services Inc. Holds Valentine Luncheon
Mid-Illinois Senior Services Inc. held their Valentine Luncheon on Friday, February 10 at the senior center. Part of the luncheon included a poetry contest as well as a catered lunch and door prizes. Winners received gift certificates to area businesses. Poetry contest winners were first place Harry McCorkle with “Helen’s Song”, second place Shirley Ford with “Twas the Night After Christmas”, third place Rachele Lane with “My Husband” and Honorable Mention to Joane Hutton.

Storm leaves damage in its wake

The storm that occurred in the evening hours of June 11th produced wind gusts of up to 70 mph left many locals without power, with many experiencing damage to property ranging from mild to extreme.
