Mo. Co. VFW Post 6410 Receives Donation
On Saturday, June 26, Commander Marty Poling of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 8, Champaign and Vermillion Counties, presented a donation to the Moultrie County VFW Post 6410 Quartermaster Jeff Nichols, in the amount of $2819.37. The DAV Chapter 8 has recently announced the retirement of their chapter and designated VFW Post 6410 as the final recipient of the chapter’s funds. The donation will enable VFW Post 6410 to continue their mission to provide assistance and emergency funds for veterans in Moultrie County and the surrounding area. If you are or know of a veteran in need of assistance, please contact the Moultrie County VFW Post 6410 at 217-728-7988.

Tommy Houser Memorial Golf Tournament
The Tommy Houser Memorial Golf Tournament was postponed to Saturday, July 3 due to rain and wet conditions at the golf course. However, the silent auction, steak dinner and music from Identity Crisis was still held on Saturday, June 26 as planned at the Sullivan VFW. Proceeds from the event go towards the Thomas Houser Memorial Scholarship Fund. To inquire if there is room to play during the golf tournament contact Elizabeth Houser at 217-962-0189. Bethany Fire Protection District Presented With Plaque
Last Monday afternoon, June 21, Richie McCabe Jr. presented a plaque to members of the Bethany Fire Protection District. McCabe Jr. said that it took 3 to 4 days to construct the plaque as well as paint and stencil it. He presented the plaque as a thank you to the members of the department for being there for two of his family members when they needed the department’s assistance. “It’s a thankless job so when we get recognized it feels good,” Bethany Fire Chief Mike Jennings said “Realistically people call us on their worst day so when they come back and thank us it means it made a difference.” From left to right: James Burns, Willy Kastning, Richie McCabe Jr., Fire Chief Mike Jennings and Jim McMahan.

The Highway Church of Christ, along with the community, wanted to let the officers know they appreciate all they do and support them each and every day while on duty. First Friday Concert
The Little Theatre On The Square held its the first concert in their First Friday Concert Series last Friday in front of the theatre. The concert was Lexie Dorsett Sharp featuring Jordan Cyphert and John Stephens. The next concert will be held on Friday, July 2 at 7:30 pm and will be Heather J. The Elizabeth Titus Memorial Library held their summer reading kickoff party on Friday, May 28. There were 2 inflatables, snowcones and kids could sign up for the summer reading program while they were there. This year’s theme is “Reading Colors Your World.” For more information on summer reading visit the circulation desk at the library. New royalty to be crowned
The Moultrie-Douglas County Fair Pageant will be held Monday, July 27th at 6:00 p.m. for Little Miss Fair Queen and 7:00 p.m. for Miss and Junior Miss Fair Queen located at the south track on the Mo-Do Fairgrounds. Vying for the title of Miss Moultrie Douglas Fair Queen are: Abigail Meyer of Tuscola, Addee Mulligan of Arcola, Sarah Rogers of Atwood, Ava Whitson of Tuscola, Addisyn Wilson of Villa Grove, Emma Spillman of Tuscola, Aymara Leal of Arcola and Katilyn Kirby of Sullivan.
