Obituaries 1-27-2016: Carol Fidroeff

Carol Annette Horsman Fidroeff, 58, died in her home Saturday, January 23, 2016 with her husband Wil at her side. Carol, a very brave woman, decided to go home and forgo futile aggressive cancer treatment when it was discovered that she had advanced stage 4 cancer.

Visitation will be today (Wednesday), January 27, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan.  A “scattering of the ashes” memorial service will be held Saturday, July 9, Carol’s birthday, at 6 p.m. at Wil and Sunny’s dome home located four miles east of Sullivan.

Carol was born July 9, 1957 in Shelbyville, Ill., to Ivan and Louise Horsman. She graduated from Sullivan High School and Lake Land College and attended Rhode Island Community College. Read More

G. Leon Cochran, 81, a resident of Trent Woods, N.C. died unexpectedly January 22, 2016 at home after battling a number of health issues.

Born February 22, 1934 in Lovington, he attended the University of Illinois and graduated from Eastern Illinois State University in 1956 with a B.S. in Education.

Leon served in the US Army stationed at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Tex.  After his discharge from the army, he began a successful career with General Electric. Hired by the Audio Products department in 1960 in Decatur, Leon was promoted and relocated to Bridgeport, Conn. to work in the housewares division and then promoted and relocated to become a manager of Market Administration for the Advanced Products Operation in Schenectady, N.Y. He was selected to promote in print and media General Electric’s electric lawn mower “Elec-Trak”. He was called back to GE in 1981 to become a facilities manager for the I &SE Department completing a 16 year career. Read More

Sheila M. Harshman, 82, of Sullivan went home to be with her Savior at 8:45 a.m. Thursday, January 14, 2016 in her residence after a courageous and graceful battle with cancer.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Sunday in Elim Springs Church of Jesus Christ with Felix Hagerman and Vanessa Patient officiating. Burial was in Greenhill Cemetery. Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan was in charge of arrangements.  Read More

Dr. Carl F. Erickson passed away January 14, 2016 in Sullivan at the age of 97. Dr. Erickson was born February 8, 1918, in Concordia, Kansas to Edd and Clara Gilbertson Erickson.  He married Ruth Swanson May 30, 1942 in North Luck, Wisconsin. He is survived by three daughters Clarice (Gary) Kessinger of Decatur, Alabama, Janet (Dave) Redenbaugh of Danville, Illinois and Ruthann Erickson of Los Angeles, California and one son Carl N. Erickson of Sullivan. Also, surviving are six grandchildren Dave Kessinger of Danville, Indiana, Kevin Kessinger (Tanya) of Plainfield, Indiana, Ryan Redenbaugh (Debbie) of Huntington Beach, California, Daran Redenbaugh (Janette) of Chicago, Illinois, Bryan Huber (Viktoria) of San Diego, California and Heather Huber of San Diego, California. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren Will and Evan Kessinger, and Alex, Emma, and Isaac Kessinger. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth of 62 years, his parents, his sister and infant brother. Read More

On Tuesday, April 28th, under the direction of Dr. Ian Kinkley, Band Director, the Sullivan Band Program presented its symphonious Spring Band concert, titled “Evening Escapes,” which showcased the magnificent and diverse talents of the Sullivan 6th, 7th and 8th grade bands, combined with the Sullivan High School Band and Jazz Band.
