ALAH Bass Team First at Lake Shelbyville

The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond bass fishing team of Caleb Branch and Dawson Miller took first place in the Lake Shelbyville Sectional Monday, May 7.

They combined for a total weight of 9 pounds and 4 ounces for first place. Read More

ALAH and OVHS Track Teams Participate in Conference Meet

The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond and Okaw Valley girls’ and boys’ track and field teams participated in the 12-school Little Okaw Valley Conference meet in Arthur Friday, May 4.

The Knights’ boys’ team won the LOVC championship with 95 points, and the girls team placed third with 82 points.

Top ALAH finishers included senior Logan Hall who won the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs with times of 4:22.65 and 9:25.45, respectively.

Kobe Wells high jumped 6 feet 4 inches for first place and triple jumped 41 feet 2 inches for second place, and he ran the 400-meter in 52.75 for fourth place. Read More

WSS Softball Team Picks Up 20th Win

The Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg softball team picked up its 20th win of the season capturing another three wins this week.

WSS not only defeated, but also dominated Nokomis, St. Anthony and Farina South Central this past week.

Monday against Nokomis, Megan Schlechte pitched a two-hit shutout while the Hatchets’ offense score 11 runs for the 5-inning win.

The game was close until WSS plated four runs in the third inning, three runs in the fourth inning and three runs in the fifth inning.

The Hatchets combined for 15 hits.

Calla Roney was 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs, and Schlechte tallied two hits, two runs scored and three RBIS. Read More

Big Bats Come Out Against Central A&M for Sullivan Win

The Sullivan baseball team split four games this week.

The Redskins defeated Cumberland and Central A&M but lost to Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg and Clinton.

Last Tuesday, Sullivan defeated Central A&M 12-1 in five innings.

The Redskins scored three runs in the second inning and five in the third inning for an 8-1 lead.

Sullivan tacked on four more in the fifth for the final score.

ALAH Softball Team Takes Sullivan in Extra Innings

The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond softball team defeated Sullivan in 11 innings Monday and St. Teresa last Wednesday but lost to Argenta-Oreana in a Little Okaw Valley showdown.

Against Sullivan, the Knights fell behind 3-0 after the first three innings but tied the game with three runs in the fourth inning.

Sullivan plated two runs in the fifth and ALAH plated two in the seventh inning to tie the game up at five.

Each team scored two runs in the 10th inning to extend the game to the 11th inning where the Knights scored two runs to win, 9-7.

For the Knights, Addi Tinkle recorded four hits, and Kirsten Corum added three.

Corum, Taylor Powell and Shelby Frederick each had two RBIs.

Makenzie Brown got the win. She pitched 11 innings and struck out 19.

For Sullivan, Addison Darush had three hits, and Madison Wall pitched 11 innings and stuck out one. Read More

OV Softball Team Sweeps Double Header Against Arcola

The Okaw Valley softball team finished the week with a 2-1 record with a doubleheader sweep against Arcola and a loss to Casey-Westfield.

Last Wednesday, OV defeated Arcola 12-2 in the first game of the doubleheader and 21-11 in the second game.

In the first game, OV blew the game open with five runs in the fifth inning and five runs in the sixth inning.

The team pounded out 12 hits.

Bella Benning had four hits, and Natalie Jeffers, Grace Bunfill and Madison Voegel each had three hits.

Voegel recorded three RBIs and Bunfill had two, and Harlin, Natalie Jeffers and Kate Jeffers each had one RBI.

Natalie Jeffers also scored four runs, while Harlin and Bunfill each scored two runs. Read More

Nuzzo Vaults to First at the Redskin Invitational

The Sullivan boys’ track and field team competed in the Redskin Invitational last Tuesday. The Redskins placed sixth with 44 points.

Jadon Nuzzo pole vaulted 13 feet for first place, and Logan Pedigo vaulted 12 feet 6 inches for second place.

Luke Bowman ran the 200-meter dash in 24.57 for third place, and Isaiah Plank ran the 1,600-meter run in 4.57.57 for third place. Read More

OV Baseball Wins OV Northwest Conference Title

The Okaw Valley baseball team surpassed 20 wins and won the Little Okaw Valley Northwest Conference during a busy week.

OV knocked off Arcola, Argenta-Oreana, Decatur Lutheran and Tri-County to stay undefeated in the LOVC but lost a non conference game to Paris.

“Winning the LOVC is one of our main goals every season,” said OV coach Andrew Hagerman. “Going undefeated in conference play is really quite an accomplishment. There are some really good teams in our conference, and I feel all of the teams in the LOVC Northwest are very well-coached right now.”

Monday, the Timberwolves topped Tri-County 11-1.

The Sullivan softball team dropped four games this week, including a 12-inning marathon against Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond.

Friday, Sullivan lost a doubleheader to Clinton.

The Redskins lost the first game 13-3 and the second game 6-5.

In the second game Sullivan scored three runs in the third inning, but Clinton scored in every inning but the second.

Gwen Diepholz and Madison Wall each record two hits, and Wall had three RBIs. Read More

Best Performances Wrap Sullivan Girls’ Track Season

The Sullivan girls’ track and field team finished fifth with 60 points at the Central Illinois Conference meet hosted by Central A&M in Moweaqua Friday.

They placed second with 97 points in the Redskin Invitational last Tuesday.

“We had several season best performances as we wrap up our regular season meets and now prepare for the sectional that we are hosting next Thursday,” said coach Kali Taylor.

In the CIC meet, Keelie Fleener won the 200-meter dash with a time of 30.60, and Mallory Nichols followed in second at 31.13.

Haley Rose ran the 100-meter dash in 14.45 for third place, and she placed fifth in the 300-meter hurdles at 51.30 Read More
