SOV Sends Seniors Out on Top with Win Over Clinton

After sloppy start, SOV scores quickly to win 41-16

Between SOV and Clinton, the first half alone saw six turnovers and 12 flags. Fortunately for SOV, the Maroons were unable to capitalize with the exception of a safety, allowing them ample time to finally settle in. And when they did, the Redskins’ offense struck fast while the defense forced several three-and-outs, paving the way to a 41-16 win on senior night.

“It wasn’t very pretty at all in the beginning, which I believe was because we were a little tight because we wanted this game very badly for the seniors,” said head coach Charles Brown. “We were able to stay on course and keep our plan in action throughout the game. In the second quarter, especially, we were able to take advantage of the opportunities presented to us and put the points on the board. Defensively, we were fortunate that we were playing well enough so that Clinton could not take advantage of too many of our mistakes.” Read More

Bulldogs cruise 25-8 for first set win

Hosting St. Teresa for senior night last Thursday, Sullivan posted two very different sets of play, but neither the lackadaisical first nor stubborn second denied the Bulldogs, who went on to win 8-25, 18-25.

the Redskins were outscored 1-9 to begin, and despite a handful of solid volleys between both teams, St. T proved to be the supreme foe, outlasting Sullivan until a shank or unforced error crept up. The Lady Bulldogs didn’t bat an eye as they went on to win 25-8. Read More

Inherits Windsor once again Thursday

After Atwood-Hammond defeated Okaw Valley in two sets, they gave top seeded Arthur-Lovington a run for their money. But the Lancers finished off the Rajenes 25-23, 25-19, in their final volleyball match before Atwood-Hammond annexes with Arthur-Lovington next school year.

In the first set, the Lancers had eight unforced errors including service errors and missed kill opportunities.

After advancing to sectionals last year for the first time in 10 years, the Lady Red cross country team advanced again Saturday after competing in the Shelbyville regional.

Finishing seventh with a score of 170, SOV was led by sophomore Carlin Nuzzo (20:51), who finished 23rd overall. Rounding out the Lady Redskins’ top seven were Ashlynd Risley (20:56-25th), Cadisen Nuzzo (21:40-36th), Alyssa Marshall (22:01-42nd), Mollie Bowman (22:27-44th), Holly Lamb (22:53-48th), and Annie Hogan (23:07-51st). Poor passing and third set lifts get the best of AL

Tuesday night’s game between Arthur-Lovington and Heritage in Arthur was the final home game in the 34 year career of Lancer head coach Val Cornwell and the Lancers (22-3) looked primed and ready to send their coach off with a bang against Heritage, whom the Lancers had easily put away in two sets in the LOVC Tournament. The big play was not the friend of SOV when they traveled to Decatur to face St. Teresa Friday.

The Bulldogs scored on pass plays of 67, 52, and 50-yards to down SOV 42-7 in the next to last regular game of the season. The Redskins dropped to 2-6 on the season which, at the beginning, was supposed to be a statement season for the Redskins’ program. Read More

SOV Runners Compete in OVC Meet

At SOV’s last appearance in the Okaw Valley Conference cross country meet before they begin competition next year in the Central Illinois Conference, the girls pulled away with a fourth place finish behind no. 1 and no. 2 state-ranked St. Teresa and Monticello, as well as state-ranked Unity. The girls edged out A&M for fourth by a score of 137 to 140.  Read More

Inconsistency continues to plague Lady Red

After having one of their best games of the year at Monticello the Tuesday prior, Sullivan’s volleyball team had, what head coach Heather Lindenmeyer referred to, as their worst.

“We just played awful tonight,” said the Sullivan coach. “We had a wonderful match against Monticello. We came out so aggressive. We were in system. It was just amazing to see that, so this loss is much more disappointing, because it’s probably one of the worst.”

But signs of this worst-to-come match didn’t surface at the beginning.

Sullivan took an early 2-0 lead, but Meridian responded with four unanswered points. A Brittin Boyer kill would provide the side out and just a one-point deficit, but the Lady Hawks’ Maggie Comerford had her first of many kills on the night. Meridian tallied another four unanswered points, two of which thanks to unforced Sullivan errors. Despite stringing together three straight points and cutting Meridian’s lead to two, Sullivan fell back after the Hawks got back out to a four point lead at 8-12. Read More
