Two Wins for OV Timberwolves’ Baseball

The Okaw Valley baseball team finished the week 2-1 for an overall record of 23-4.

The Timberwolves defeated Louisville North Clay and Argenta-Oreana but lost to the much larger school of Taylorville

Saturday OV scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take the 9-7 lead and win.

SOV Track Places At CIC Meet

The Sullivan-Okaw Valley boys’ track team placed sixth with 60 points at the Central Illinois Conference Track Meet at Meridian High School in Macon.

Sullivan Baseball Shuts Out Rams

The Sullivan baseball team split a pair of games this past week, shutting out Shelbyville and losing to Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond.

Against the Rams, Sullivan scored three runs in the fourth and five in the fifth to win the game 10-0 in five innings.

Tommy Schibur was 2-for-4 with four RBIs, and Spencer Johnson was 3-for-3 with three runs scored.  Read More

ALAH Girls Place at Little Okaw Meet

Four Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond athletes placed in the top two spots at the Little Okaw Valley Conference Championships in Toledo last Tuesday.

Hannah Wallen long jumped 16 feet 0.5 inches and ran the 400 meter in 1:01.71 for first places. Read More

Sullivan Softball Starts Regional Action at Macon

The Sullivan softball team lost to Cumberland and Okaw Valley last week and was winning an unfinished game against Clinton 2-0.

Against Cumberland Saturday, the Redskins tied the score in the top of the seventh inning, but Cumberland scored two in the bottom of the inning to win 9-7.

Some Good Hits But No Wins For Knights

The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond baseball team finished the week 0-2 with losses to Decatur Lutheran and Argenta-Oreana.

Monday Decatur Lutheran scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to take a lead and the eventual 6-4 win.

Decatur Lutheran took the lead 4-3 in the seventh inning, but ALAH tied the game with a run in the bottom of the inning to send it to the eighth.

Marcus Vanausdoll and Will Cohan each had two hits.

Vanausdoll scored a run, and Cohan knocked in a run. Read More

Warrensburg Wins Sullivan Redskin Invitational

Ten schools, including four Moultrie County teams, participated in the Sullivan Redskin Invitational last Tuesday. Warrensburg won the meet with 140 points.

SOV girls’ team

The SOV girls’ team placed fourth with 69 points.

Katherine Kite took second in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 6:11.52, and senior Ashlynd Risley placed third in the 100-meter run at 13.74 and third in the 400-meter run at 1:06.04.

Laine Cameron took third in the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles with times of 17.72 and 52.08, respectively.

Natalie Drury high jumped 4 foot 6 inched for fourth place, and Esther Miller jumped 4 feet 6 inches for fifth place.

Sophomore Alaya Bolin tossed the shot put 34 feet for fifth place, and Haley Rose ran the 300 hurdles in 52.86 for fifth place. Read More

ALAH Softball Team Picks Up Two Wins

The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond softball team picked up two wins and earned a No. 1 seed in the I.H.S.A. Class 1A Girls’ Softball Regional hosted by the Knights.

ALAH defeated A-O 10-3 Friday and knocked off Sullivan 7-1 in Arthur, Monday.

Against the Redskins, the Knights jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the first inning and two runs in the second.

The Redskins scored one run in the top of the sixth, but ALAH answered with three more in the bottom of the inning.

For ALAH, sophomore Reagan Miller hit a home run and had two RBIs and two runs scored. Read More

Outstanding Sullivan Blue Dolphins Recognized

The Sullivan Blue Dolphins annual team banquet was held April 23 at the Sullivan VFW.

Many athletes were recognized including this year’s seniors. Some of the highlights from the banquet include Sullivan Blue Dolphin of the Year, McKenna Kull, high point winner for boys Johnathan Iacobazzi and high point winner for girls Brynna Sentel.

OVJH Track Qualifies Five for State

For the second straight year, Macie Fleshner wins the 100-meter hurdles to advance to the state track meet.

The Okaw Valley Junior High track teams had five athletes this week qualify for the state track meet.

For the girls’ team, state qualifiers include Macie Fleshner, who for the second straight year won the 100-meter hurdles to advance to state. Her qualifying time was 17.2.

Seventh grader Reiss Frye tossed the shot put 26 feet and 5 inches and threw the discus 81 feet 6 inches.

OV’s 800-meter relay team of Fleshner, Danae Nave, Reiss Frye, Katie Brown, and alternate Shyanne Harding earned a trip to state with at time of 2:00.

For the boy’s team, eighth grader Noah Dukeman high jumped 5 foot 6 inches to advance.

The eight-grade 800-meter, 1,600-meter relay team of Kameron Taylor, Luke Vander Burgh, Ryan Pantier, Preston Ozier and Noah Dukeman earned a trip with times of 1:47.8 and 4:10.1, respectively.

Storm leaves damage in its wake

The storm that occurred in the evening hours of June 11th produced wind gusts of up to 70 mph left many locals without power, with many experiencing damage to property ranging from mild to extreme.
