The Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond game at Decatur’s Lutheran School Association field ended in favor of the LSA Lions 54-22 on Friday, October 9.

It was 8:36 in the second quarter and the Lions were up 32-0 when the Knights made their first move.

Tyler Smith returned the kick off to the 33 yard line. A Lions penalty following an incomplete Knights pass put the ball on the 47 yard line.

Marcus Vanausdoll hauled the ball down to the three yard liner.

That’s when Will Cohan handed the ball to Tyler Smith for a three yard run into the end zone for the Knights first score. The two point conversion put the score at 32-8.

Coach Dale Schuring threw the LSA Lions off balance calling an on-side kick that was recovered by Knight Brad Miller.

A pass attempt from Will Cohen to Teddy Poe was incomplete. Marcus Vanausadoll ran head long into the Lions defense for one yard with another incomplete pass forced the Knights to kick away.

The Lion’s scored again with 4:34 left in the half with the score reaching 40-8. Read More

Poppies to honor those who gave all

News Progress

On Friday, May 22nd, Ruth Keown, Vice-President of the Sullivan American Legion Auxiliary Unit 68, greeted the public at the entrance to the local Post Office, distributing Memorial Poppies. Each year, millions of Americans wear these Memorial Poppies in memory of American service members who lost their lives in war while serving their country, and to assist those Veterans who are now hospitalized or in rehabilitation, suffering from wounds and illnesses. Memorial Day poppies distributed by the American Legion symbolize the ultimate sacrifice made by service members and are a tribute to those who lost their lives in war. Wearing the poppy is a way to honor the fallen and ensure their bravery is never forgotten.
