SOV Cross Country Boys Take Second at Tabor

Sullivan Okaw Valley cross country boys competed at Tabor Park Tuesday, October 6 taking second place with a 59 behind Shelbyville’s 30.

The Arthur Lovington/Atwood Hammond team placed third with 87; Tuscola fourth at 89 and Villa Grove fifth with 114.

SOV runners included JT Bland 10th in 18:30; Jadon Nuzzo 11th in 18:51; Isaiah Plank 15th in 19:21 and Charlie Goss 16th in 19:30.

ALAH runner Logan Hall was first with a 16:09 time followed by Tyler Pasley from Shelbyville running 16:26; Ryan Skowronski of Shelbyville was third in 16:39; Jordan Seeger Shelbyville ran fourth in 17:15. Read More

SOV Girls Cross Country Takes First Place

Sullivan/Okaw Valley’s cross country team held a meet  Tuesday Oct, 6 in Tabor Park with Shelbyville, Tuscola, Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, Villa Grove, and Bement participating along with the Sullivan Okaw Valley host team.

ALAH Down in Tourney Play

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond played in the LOVC volleyball tournament over the weekend, losing two games.

Bement won in two against the Knights 15-25 and 12-25. The Lutheran School Association played ALAH next, winning 5-25 and 23-25.

The Knights varsity record is 11-10, and they are 2-1 in conference play. Read More

Timberlake results for September 28 -first place with six under par, winning playoff hole and a eagle on #9:  Austin Hunter, Leann Weber, Seth Sawyer and Mike Sawyer.

Shane and Cole Russell won the Wednesday Night Men’s league at Timberlake Golf Course.

Second and Third for SOV Cross Country

Sullivan/Okaw Valley cross country results from Saturday, Oct. 3: Redskin runners competed in the St. Anthony’s Eastern Crossroads meet. The boys’ team took second place, and the girls’ team was third out of 10 teams.

SOV runners Ashlynd Risley (3rd), JT Bland (5th), Logan Pedigo (8th) all took home medals for being in the top 10.  Read More

When Sullivan’s volleyball team hosted St. Teresa October 1, the team came out strong in the first game winning 25-23, then came up short the other two games 17-25 and 7-25.

“The Redskins provided some hard-fought volleys as a team,” coach Krista Smith said. “The team unity keeps getting stronger and stronger.”

Coach Smith noted that Abby Elzy  provided excellent sets with Seleste Smith, Alyssa Marshall and Lizzie Green coming up with good defensive digs.

Individual efforts on the Redskins team included Chloe Riley with two kills and one block; Jazmyn Jane provided two kills.

Abby Elzy had eight assists; Lizzie Green served one ace with Seleste Smith supplying one ace and 18 digs.

In junior varsity play St Teresa again came out on top with 19-25 and 16-25 game scores.

Decatur LSA takes Timberwolves

Okaw Valley hosted Decatur Lutheran School Association in volleyball October 1 winning one game 25-21, then going on to lose the next two in the match 21-25 and 12-25. The team record is 9-8 for the season.

Kristy Burford had two kills, one ace, one pass return and six digs; Kailyn Boyer had three kills, four aces and four digs; Madison Fox led the team with seven kills, two aces, two digs and one block shot. Read More

SOV Cross Country Hosts Tabor Park Run

Sullivan Okaw Valley’s cross country teams hosted Taylorville, Central A&M, Bement and Pana in Tabor Park Tuesday, Sept 29 with the Lady Redskin runners finishing first with a 43 over Taylorville -44 and Central A&M - 57.

The Redskin boys’ team finished second behind Taylorville with a 49.

SOV’s Ashlynd Risley was fourth with a 21:42 time; Laine Cameron ran sixth at 22:19; Alyssa Marshall eighth finishing in  22:50; Cadisen Nuzzo finished 11th in 23:19; Josie Orris 14th running 24:01; Anne Hogan completed in 25:20; Madison Atchison -29:00 and Abby Elzy - 29:11 to complete to SOV girls participating runners.

Claudia Magnussen of Pana completed the run first in 18:48; Anna Lowry of Taylorville was second with a 19:23 run; Salena Sloan of Central A& M was third in 20:33.

Carly Aldridge of Taylorville was fifth with a 22:10 run; Erin Forelines of Central A&M came in seventh with a 22:26 time; Natalie Kirkbride of Pana was ninth in 23:05; Emma Cortin of Taylorville finished 10th in 23:10. Read More

Knights Rally to Beat Storm

Lovington-Lovington/ Atwood-Hammond volleyball Knights traveled to Sangamon Valley Sept 30 returning with a win. The Knights topped the Storm in three games winning 25-21 in the first, dropping the second 13-25 and coming back in the third 28-26.

This brings the Knight varsity record to 11-8 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

In individual play Makayla Brown contributed three kills; Chelsey Chupp two digs; Kim Davis had eight digs. Read More

Poppies to honor those who gave all

On Friday, May 22nd, Ruth Keown, Vice-President of the Sullivan American Legion Auxiliary Unit 68, greeted the public at the entrance to the local Post Office, distributing Memorial Poppies. Each year, millions of Americans wear these Memorial Poppies in memory of American service members who lost their lives in war while serving their country, and to assist those Veterans who are now hospitalized or in rehabilitation, suffering from wounds and illnesses. Memorial Day poppies distributed by the American Legion symbolize the ultimate sacrifice made by service members and are a tribute to those who lost their lives in war. Wearing the poppy is a way to honor the fallen and ensure their bravery is never forgotten.
