Sullivan attacked the rim early and often in Wednesday night’s makeup game against Shelbyville and Ty Molzen and Nick Frerichs each scored 18 points to lead the Redskins to their fourth consecutive win, 62-52 over the Rams.

Revenge was in the forefront of the Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Lancers’ minds Monday night in their LOVC tourney opener against Villa Grove-Heritage in Arcola.

The last time Okaw Valley’s and Arthur’s girls played basketball, Karly Goodman went off for 25 points, and the Lancers dominated. This time was much different. The ‘wolves were ready.

After a year off from the gridiron, former Arcola and Mattoon head football coach Gerald Temples is back at it as the Sullivan school board voted to hire him Monday night as the next Redskin head coach.

Temples, who after leaving Mattoon in 2007, went on to coach three seasons at Arcola (2010-12), including an 8-4 team in 2011 that reached the 1A quarterfinals. Read More

Gentlemen Red Put Up Big Fourth to Beat Maroa

After being down 32-34 heading into the fourth quarter, Sullivan’s boys’ basketball team posted 21 points in the last quarter to beat Maroa-Forsyth 53-42 Tuesday.

Competing in the Williamsville Holiday tournament in December, the Redskins went 1-2, losing to Tremont and LeRoy and defeating Deer Creek-Mackinaw.

Despite holding a 26-25 lead over Tremont at the half, Sullivan’s defense collapsed in the second half as the Turks posted 22 points in the third and 25 in the fourth to pull away and win 72-57. Read More

Orris’ 16 a boost for Lady T-Wolves

After being off for the past week, the Lady Timberwolves were able to come out on Monday and get a 41-29 win against the Villa Grove/Heritage Blue Devils, who just last week defeated Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond 52-49.

OV came out with an energetic purpose that carried them successfully through the game. Both teams were able to keep up with each other throughout the first quarter, with OV guard Amy Orris having two 3-pointers to put her team ahead. Read More

Most of the time, a 24-15 advantage at halftime of a girls’ basketball game would give enough momentum for the team winning at the time to finish the game and win, but for ALAH Thursday night that was not the case.

Elyse Harris scored nine of her 10 points in the first half, and Brooke Tabb added half of her eight in the second quarter to contribute to the Lancer advantage, but then everything fell apart in the second half.  Read More
