Illinois Deer Donation Program Hosting Food Pantry Summit

The Illinois Deer Donation Program is excited to offer a Food Pantry Summit on Wednesday, September 13 from 9am-3pm at the Lake Land College Foundation & Alumni Center in Mattoon, IL. Extension will be offering training on food safety, the relationship of trauma in food, and food dignity. Sessions will include information about the Illinois Deer Donation Program and how to become a partnering pantry to receive ground venison for your pantry guests. Food handlers training with certificate will be offered free of charge. Read More

BASO Main Street Car Show 2023

BASO Main Street Car Show

BASO held their Main Street Car Show in downtown Bethany on Saturday, August 19. There were a wide variety of vehicles on display from more recent models to classics and everything in between. The Bethany First United Methodist had an ice cream social during the car show that included homemade pie and ice cream and The Okaw Valley Band Boosters sold walking tacos to support the Marching Timberwolves.

Lake Shelbyville Tree Stand Permits now Available for Deer Season

Lake Shelbyville‘s Tree Stand Policy for this year will remain the same as it was last season. The policy allows hunters to leave one stand up for the season (“Seasonal Tree Stand”) and/or utilize up to two “Roving” stands that can be left up during archery season for a period not to exceed a break in use greater than 72 hours – the length of a 3 day weekend. Seasonal tree stands may be placed 2 weeks prior to archery season and must be removed within 2 weeks of archery season ending. Archery season runs from October 1, 2023 - January 14, 2024. Read More

On Thursday, August 31 at 10:30 a.m. the Business Navigator Alliance of South Central and Southeastern Illinois will host a webinar, focusing on Crawford County, Illinois, and their efforts to meet increased housing needs.

LLC welcomes new coordinator of mental health services

Lake Land College is pleased to welcome Thomas Moll as the College’s new coordinator of mental health services. With over 20 years of behavioral health experience, Moll seeks to support the success of Lake Land students by providing wellness services throughout the college.

Moll is a Lake Land College alumnus, graduating in 1997 with an associate degree in human services. He then completed a bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of Illinois at Springfield in 2000 before attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and obtaining a master’s degree in social work in 2002. Recently, he served as a licensed clinical social worker for Family Care Associates in Effingham. Read More

Moultrie County to Offer Real Estate for Sale

Moultrie County, as Trustee, has completed their tax deed proceedings on real estate properties that were delinquent for 2019 and prior real estate taxes. The County, as Trustee will now offer for sale the real estate obtained to the public. They will offer approximately 4 items through a sealed bid auction sale. All sealed bids must be in the Moultrie County Treasurer’s Office located in the Moultrie County Courthouse, 10 S. Main Street--Suite 10, Sullivan, Illinois 61951 no later than the close of business on September 1, 2023. Read More

25 Years Ago This Week

Marta Lockwood, Sullivan High School’s Family and Consumer Science instructor brought home the Spirit of Advising Award from the National FHA-HERO Leadership Meeting held in New Orleans. The award recognized her as the top FHA-HERO adviser in the state and one of the top in the nation.

On Tuesday, April 28th, under the direction of Dr. Ian Kinkley, Band Director, the Sullivan Band Program presented its symphonious Spring Band concert, titled “Evening Escapes,” which showcased the magnificent and diverse talents of the Sullivan 6th, 7th and 8th grade bands, combined with the Sullivan High School Band and Jazz Band.
