July is Tie for Coolest on Record in Illinois

The statewide average temperature for July was 70.3 degrees in Illinois, which ties the record for the coolest July set back in 2009, according to the Illinois State Climatologist Jim Angel at the Illinois State Water Survey, University of Illinois.
July 1936 (82.8 degrees) was the warmest July on record, followed closely by July 2012 (81.8 degrees). In just six years, Illinoisans have experienced the second warmest and twice the coldest July on record. Read More

Sarah Bush Lincoln’s mobile mammography van will be at the SBL Sullivan Clinic August 15 and Hydro Gear in Sullivan August 29.
The van helps provide mammograms to women who may not otherwise have access to or be able to afford these life-saving preventive screens. Women who qualify will receive their mammogram free. Read More
Ill. Announces Launch of Homegrown By Heroes™

Illinois veterans soon will have the opportunity to leverage a national branding campaign to help market their farm products. The Homegrown By Heroes initiative, a product labeling program, will allow Illinois farmers, ranchers, and fishermen who have served or are still serving in any branch of the U.S. military to use a special logo on their agricultural products. Farmer training and education also are large components of the initiative, which will make informational resources available to veterans desiring to farm in the state. Read More

Theta Psi Members Attend National Convention

Rita Seelow and Noelle Yeakel of the Theta Psi Chapter of Psi Iota Xi in Bethany attended the Psi Iota Xi National Convention in Fort Wayne, Ind., June 21-22.
Psi Iota Xi meets annually to vote on charitable contributions to be distributed nationally. Two years ago Psi Iota Xi established a new long term project that will result in donations of more than $100,000 to the Intensive Stuttering Clinic at the University of Toledo. The last two long term projects included an endowed professorship at Indiana University School of Medicine/Riley Hospital and cleft palate research at the University of Illinois. Read More
