Hart One of Four Commencement Speakers at EIU Saturday

Brittany R. Hart of Sullivan was one of four commencement speakers at EIU this past Saturday.

  In order to promote EIU’s commitment to strengthening the academic and personal experience of EIU’s students and to showcase examples of exemplary writing and speaking, the university introduced the Student Commencement Speaker Series in Fall 2013.  This program replaces the former student and faculty speaker traditions at Eastern. Wierman Scholarship Contest Open To Area Students

Writing a winning essay about a famed mural produced by artist Diego Rivera will earn an area student a $500 scholarship.

The Mideastern Illinois Labor Council is sponsoring a labor essay contest that is open to college-bound high school juniors and seniors and students who are currently attending a community college or university. To be eligible, entrants must be current or former union members or children or grandchildren of current or former union members and must reside in one of the counties covered by the labor council: Clark, Coles, Crawford, Cumberland, Douglas, Edgar, Effingham, Jasper, Moultrie and Shelby counties. Landmark torn down



News Progress


The home at the intersection of Route 133 and Route 32 in Lovington was torn down last week. The house had become a major hazard after a box truck struck it, taking out a large portion of the north wall. The owners had the home demolished after it was deemed a public safety issue.
