Art Club Kicks Off 2014 Workshops Saturday

The Sullivan Art Club will begin its 2014 art workshop series Saturday, March 15 at the First United Methodist Church hall at the corner of Jefferson and Hamilton streets. Watercolorist John Madison of Bloomington will conduct the workshop and lead the group in painting transparent glass. Last call for Monsanto Grant Nominations

The deadline is fast approaching for farmers to nominate rural public school districts to compete for a grant of up to $25,000, through America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund. Nominations will be accepted until April 6. Eligible farmers may nominate their school district by visiting www.GrowRuralEducation.com or by calling 1-877-267-3332. Grants are awarded based on merit, need and community support. The more farmers who nominate a school district, the more it demonstrates community support and can strengthen the school district’s application. This year the program has expanded to 18 new counties, for a total of 1,289 eligible counties across 39 states. Read More

Moultrie County 2014 Mobile Home Privilege Tax

Tax bills will be mailed on March 14, 2014 and are due on May 15, 2014. 

Taxes may be mailed to Moultrie County Collector, 10 S. Main, Suite 10, Sullivan, IL. 61951. Taxes may also be paid at all Moultrie County Banks: Hardware State Bank Lovington, Scott State Bank Bethany/Dalton City/Sullivan, State Bank of Arthur, Arthur Community Bank, First National Bank of Sullivan, First Mid-Illinois Bank Sullivan.  Read More

Junior Master Gardener Training March 6

Farm Bureau Accepting Scholarship Applications

The Moultrie County Farm Bureau has announced that applications are available for the Charles B. Shuman Memorial Scholarship. The $500 scholarship will be awarded to a resident of Moultrie County who is a graduating high school senior or currently enrolled in a university or community college. The successful applicant should be of good moral character and exhibit potential for successful completion of a course of study in agriculture or related fields. In addition to academic performance, extra curricular and community involvement will also be considered in the selection process. Read More

Lake Shelbyville Fish Habitat Improvement Day Postponed

The Fish Habitat Improvement Day scheduled for Saturday, March 8 has been postponed to March 22 due to unseasonably thick ice still covering most of Lake Shelbyville. Volunteer registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Lithia Springs Boat Ramp Parking Lot and the work will begin at 9 a.m. Following the event, a free lunch is available for work day volunteers at the Lake Shelbyville Visitor Center.
