Health Insurance Marketplace Workshop Jan. 30

Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center along with the Illinois Department of Public Health will sponsor an official health marketplace workshop in Sullivan at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 30 in the First United Methodist Church.

The workshop will explain what the health marketplace is and how it applies to individuals, as well as who qualifies for health coverage under the marketplace, how it makes health insurance affordable, and how to enroll in new health coverage through the marketplace.

LLC Receives Donation

Farm Credit Illinois, based in Mahomet, recently gifted the Lake Land College Foundation $50,000 as the inaugural gift for a newly established Agricultural Division Endowment. The company has also committed an additional gift in the amount of $25,000 to establish the Farm Credit Illinois Endowment, and has committed $5,000 each year for the next five years to the Foundation.  Read More

Lake Shelbyville Winter Drawdown Delayed

The Lake Shelbyville U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will postpone winter drawdown to early or mid January as requested by Water Control Department of the St. Louis District. The current Water Control Plan at Lake Shelbyville calls for winter drawdown to begin on December 15 (+/- 14 days). Read More

• Allenville Christian Church will have a candlelight Christmas Eve communion service  8-9 p.m. at 201 S Allen St. For more Information call 217-273-9069

• Faith Lutheran Church of Sullivan will have a candlelight Christmas Eve service beginning at 7 p.m. and will also have a Christmas Day service at 10 a.m. The church is located at 1185 State Highway 32.

• New Life Church of Sullivan will host their annual Celebrate with Family at 9 a.m. Sunday, December 22 and also at 6 p.m. Christmas Eve. This year’s celebration will include the Christmas Story, the Grinch, exciting trans-Siberian orchestra style song, Christmas carols, 12 days of Christmas skit, and children’s song. Shirley Park Earns Outstanding Volunteer Service Award

C.E.F.S. Economic Opportunity Corporation recently held their 2013 annual meeting and several individuals were recognized who volunteered this year to help the agency achieve its mission. According to C.E.F.S. House Fire Investigation Concluded

According to Lovington Fire Chief Gary Smith, the investigation into a house fire that occurred at a residence near the Okaw Valley Orchard Sunday, December 1 has been concluded as an electrical fire originating in the bathroom. Whether due to wiring or a space heater, Smith says it was inconclusive, but that there was “no reasonable cause pointing to arson.”

The home’s owners Jay and Selina Clark said that the fire was largely contained immediately by Mike Mitchell and Jim Bailey who used a garden hose to extinguish the fire.
