November 2013 will always be remembered for the tornado outbreak November 17 that produced 25 tornadoes across Illinois based on the latest reports. While not as dramatic, weather conditions for the month of November were colder and drier than average, according to Illinois State Climatologist Jim Angel at the Illinois State Water Survey, Prairie Research Institute, University of Illinois. Lake Land College Broadcasting Club Donates 1100 Pounds of Food

The Broadcasting Club at Lake Land College recently collected 1100 pounds of food and donated it to the Mattoon Community Food Bank.

According to Greg Powers, broadcasting instructor, the canned food drive is sponsored by the Broadcasting Club each year, and every year the campus community comes together to work for a good cause. Read More

OV FFA Gets Out to Strong Start

The Okaw Valley FFA Chapter started this year with 60 members, a marked increase from last year. Members elected  Tanner Coleman as president; Natalie Jeffers, vice president; Paige Robinson, secretary; Ethan Macklin, treasurer; Austin Hill, TJ Williams and Grace Harlin, historians; Hannah Landreth, reporter and Kam Roley, sentinel.  Read More

Foundation to Donate up to $2,000 per Location Across United States

This holiday season, as shoppers seek the ideal gift for their loved ones, Shopko Hometown Foundation is giving back to the hometown communities it is privileged to serve. For every signature Shopko Hometown in Sullivan receives between December 1 and December 24, the Shopko Hometown Foundation will make a $1 donation to Sullivan School District (up to $2,000 per store) as part of its Help Us Give Back initiative, a program that is being run in all 181 store locations across the country. Holiday Walk Dec. 14

Green Mill Village in Arcola will host a Holiday Walk 8 a.m.-noon Dec. 14.

The day will begin with a breakfast with Santa served at Carriage Crossing. Kids crafts will be featured at Santa’s Workshop at the Best Western PLUS 8 a.m.-noon.
