Barbara Lou Brock (née Graham), 73, of Arthur passed away at 4:35 p.m. Saturday, September 15, 2018 in her home surrounded by her family after a hard-fought cancer battle.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 20 from 4-7 p.m. and from 10-11 a.m. at the Arthur Southern Baptist Church with the funeral at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 21 also at the church with the Rev. Doug Davis and the Rev. Mike Rutledge officiating.  Burial will be in Arthur Cemetery. Shrader Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Read More

E. Darrell Elder, 82, of Springfield, passed away at 3:23 a.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2018 in Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Ill.
He was born September 23, 1935 in Moultrie County, Ill., a son of Delmar and Ada Brown Elder.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, sister Wilma Brandt and infant son Randy Kevin Elder. Read More

Bart W. Qualls, 53, of Sullivan, passed away at 3:34 p.m. Thursday September 13, 2018 in Sullivan.
Celebration of Life services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan with Pastor Charliam Renner officiating. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials are suggested to the Sullivan School District or the Sullivan United Methodist Church Honduras Mission Team. Online condolences may be sent to the family at reedfuneralhome.net.
Bart was born February 15, 1965 in Decatur the son of Arthur Eugene and Barbara Albert Qualls. He had been a dedicated worker for the Sullivan School District for nineteen years. He was a member of the Sullivan First United Methodist Church. Bart married Linda Martinie on August 13,1983 in Decatur.
Surviving are his wife Linda of Sullivan; children Joshua (Casey) Qualls of Sullivan, twins Michala (Blake) Fischer of Allenville and Michael (Emma) Qualls of Shelbyville; sisters Toni (John) Ellison, Kathryn (Qi) Lin, Patricia (Rick) McKinney, Vicky Nelson all of Decatur; grandchildren James Qualls, Cameron Fischer, Abigail Fischer and Landrie Qualls and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, nieces Christine Ellison and Kristina Smith, nephew Brian Ellison and sister in law Shelly Martinie.

Gregg Alan Taylor

Gregg Alan Taylor, 67, of Sullivan, Illinois passed away in his home September 11, 2018 surrounded by his family.
Gregg was a second generation Eastern Illinois alumni and married Evelyn Sandrisser in 1981.
He is survived by their daughters, Kali of Sullivan and Lauren of Evansville, Indiana and his sister Jan Nichols of Mattoon.
His father Kenneth passed away in August of 1991 and mother Norma in December of 2005.
As per his wishes, his body will be donated to cancer research, and there will be no services held at this time.
An athletic scholarship has been created in his honor. Memorials may be made to First Community Bank of Sullivan at 1 South Main St.
Condolences may be sent to 310 N Pierce Apt B in Sullivan.
He will be greatly missed.

Barbara Clayton, 83, of Allenville, passed away 7:43 a.m. Thursday, September 6, 2018 in Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Mattoon.

Mrs. Clayton was born January 26, 1935 in Moultrie County, the daughter of Berthol and Myrtie Burtcheard Bathe. Barbara was a homemaker and a member of the Allenville Christian Church. She married Orval Clayton on April 9, 1955 at Paris, Illinois and he survives.
Other survivors include her sons Ronnie Clayton of Madison, IN and Allen Clayton of Sullivan; grandsons Andy Clayton of St. Louis, MO and Aaron Clayton of Madison, IN; great-grandson Raylon Clayton and great-granddaughter Nora Jane Clayton both of Madison, IN; sisters Audrey England of Sullivan, Mayme Knox of Sullivan and Joan Bishop of Youngstown, FL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Nancy Clayton and brothers Archie Bathe, David Bathe and Ronnie Bathe.

Denton C. ‘Denny’ McPheeters, 74, of Sullivan, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday September 4, 2018 in his residence.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan with military rites conducted by the Sullivan American Legion Post # 68. Visitation will be from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan. Memorials are suggested to the Sullivan American Legion Post# 68 Honor Guard. Denny was born December 30, 1944 in Lebanon, Indiana the son of Russell and Lucile Schudke. He had been a carpenter and building contractor. Denny was a member of the Sullivan American Legion Post# 68 and was active in the Honor Guard. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Denny married Judith Alderson on November 30, 1965 in Chicago and she preceded him in death on October 30, 2017.
Surviving are his son Aron McPheeters and his wife Mindy of Sullivan; daughter, Tina McPheeters of Ocala, Florida; twin brother Robert McPheeters and his wife Janet of Kewanee; grandchildren Alexandria Patterson, Meghan McCain, Lauren McCain, A. J. McPheeters, Madalyne McPheeters, Riley McPheeters, Archer McPheeters and great granddaughters Addie and Avery Patterson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and daughter.

Betty Jo Wise, 71, of Auburn, Ga. passed away Friday, August 17, 2018.
She was born Jan. 17, 1947 in Vandalia, Ill., a daughter of John Robert and Ida Mae Eadie.
She was a native of Sullivan and was of the Methodist denomination. She received her nursing degree from Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, Ill. and spent 17 years as a Registered Nurse. Betty Jo loved to read and was a member of The Auburn Book Club. Read More

Storm leaves damage in its wake

The storm that occurred in the evening hours of June 11th produced wind gusts of up to 70 mph left many locals without power, with many experiencing damage to property ranging from mild to extreme.
