Paul Sanders, 84, of Windsor, passed away Friday, May 4, 2018 in HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 2018 in the Windsor Christian Church with Pastor Patrick Fahey officiating. Burial will take place in the Windsor Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Garrett-Baldridge Post #725 of Windsor. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today (Wednesday, May 9) in the Windsor Christian Church. Masonic rites will be performed at 8 p.m. by the Jackson Masonic Lodge #53 of Shelbyville. Beverly Wood 

Beverly Sewell Wood, 81, was born in Decatur, Illinois on September 9, 1936, a daughter of Forest W. (Bo) and Phyllis Wood and entered heaven’s gates April 24, 2018.

She is survived by her son Robert Sewell, Jr. and his wife Vicki of Saint Louis, Mo.; daughter Ramah Hawley and her husband Robert of River Edge, N.J.; five cherished grandchildren James Hawley, Rachel Hawley, Kai Sewell, Karli Sewell, and Keliana Sewell; former husband Robert Sewell, Sr. of Myrtle Beach, S.C., formerly of Mattoon; brother Gordon Wood of Sullivan; sisters Elaine Hansen and Marilyn Logan; brother-in-law James Logan and many treasured nieces, nephews, and cousins. Beverly is now reunited with her adoring partner of many years, Roger Mooers, who preceded her in death.  Read More

John R. Lambdin, Jr. 96 years young, of Sullivan, formerly of Lovington, went home to be with the Lord on April 26, 2018.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2018 at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Lovington. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service at the funeral home in Lovington. Burial will be in Odd Fellow Cemetery, Moweaqua, with Military Rites by the Lovington American Legion Post #429.Memorials may be made to the Lovington Christian Church or to the First Baptist Church in Sullivan.
John was the first of five children born to John R. and Beulah (Linder) Lambdin on February 11, 1922. John married Mary Anna Becker in October 1942 and had 6 children. H. Byron (Linda) Lambdin of Sullivan, the late Carl Eugene Lambdin, Rita (Roy) Edenfield of San Diego, CA, Clyde (Shirley) Lambdin of Sullivan, Stella (Roger) Gilmore of Sullivan and the late Bonnie Rhodes of Hesperia, CA. Mary Anna preceded him in death on April 28, 1988. He married Nancy Mills in September of 1988 and she preceded him in death in January of 2008. He remarried a third time to Betty Coventry in May of 2010; she survives. John was drafted into WWII and served his country for 3 years. He worked for and retired from USI of Tuscola in 1986. His nickname at work was “Honest John” and was known for his pranks. He was a part of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star for over 50 years. He served as Grand Patron for 2 separate terms. John also did mission work with SOWERS (Servants on Wheels Ever Ready) during the winter months until 2002 and worked with Habitat. John was a member of the First Christian Church of Lovington since the early 1990’s.   

John is also survived by 8 step-children, 15 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, 14 step-grandchildren and 1 sister, Zelma Sybert of Lockport.

John was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, 2 sisters, 3 children, 2 wives, 1 grandchild and 3 great-grandchildren.

Samuel David Buxton, 79, of Charleston and formerly of Sullivan, passed away in the comfort of his home Thursday, April 12, 2018. Per his request there will be no visitation or services. Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston is assisting the family with arrangements.

Samuel was born November 12, 1938 in Pierson, Illinois, a son of the late Wilbur Rolland and Ethel Riddle Buxton. He married Claudette W. Oliver, and she preceded him in death June 29, 2008. Mark H. Trower, 56, of Lake City, passed away 8:40 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018, at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Lovington. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to the A.B.A.T.E. of Illinois Prairieland Chapter or to the Lovington American Legion Post #429.

Mark was born November 13, 1961, in Springfield, the son of Robert Howard and Barbara Jean (Molzen) Trower. He married Joyce E. Gilmore on December 31, 1997, in Las Vegas, NV; she survives. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Lovington and was a Lovington High School Alumni. Mark was a motorcycle enthusiast, he also enjoyed gardening and fishing. Above all else, he loved his family and cherished the time they spent together.

He is survived by his mother, Barbara Jean Trower of Arthur; wife, Joyce of Lake City; sons, Jason Trower of Ivesdale and Josh (Melissa) Trower of Atwood; daughter, Lanna Trower of Atwood; step-sons, Chris Dugan of Lake City and Tim (Mindy) Peters of Bethany; step-daughter, Danielle (Rob) Jeffers of Long Creek; brothers, Jeff (Carolyn) Trower of Lovington, Tim (Sandy) Trower of Baraboo, WI, and Phil (Gayla) Trower of Lovington; sister, Pam Trower Wood of Sullivan; grandchildren, Jace and Tyler Trower, Chase Dugan, Ciara Thompson, Chassidy Heckwine, Colton Dugan, Abby and Bryson Peters; great-grandson, Cooper Dugan. 

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and father, Robert.

On Route 133 between Lovington and Arthur, power poles fell as a result of the storm systems that hit central Illinois in two waves on Wednesday, June 17th. These storms left many without power and caused widespread damage throughout the area, including confirmed tornado touchdowns in nearby counties.
