Nancy L. Eckel, 91, of Sullivan passed away at 8:15 p.m. Sunday January 14, 2018 in Eastview Terrace, Sullivan.

Celebration of Life services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Elim Springs Church of Jesus Christ, Sullivan. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday in the church. Burial will be in the Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan. Memorials are suggested to the Moultrie County Relay for Life. Arrangements by the Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan. Nancy was born May 5, 1926 in Sullivan the daughter of Glen H. and Agnes Harshman Lane.

Nancy was an active member of the Elim Springs Church of Jesus Christ and had an unquestionably strong faith. She was a soprano in the choir and had a great joy of music. She loved helping people and spent many years in the RSVP Program at the Sullivan Elementary School as a volunteer and a pen pal. She and Wayne loved to travel and her favorite location was the Grand Tetons. Nancy adored light houses and had acquired quite a collection of replicas. Nancy had worked as a secretary for Wood and Mayberry in Sullivan and had been a member of the Sullivan Alumni Association. Nancy married Wayne Eckel on June 23, 1951 in Sullivan and he preceded her in death on June 23, 2006. She was a mother, homemaker, a grandmother, a great grandmother and a loyal friend.

Surviving are her son Christopher Wayne (Jeri) Eckel of Sullivan ; brother Bradford (Patsy) Lane of Sullivan and grandchildren Brandi (Kris) Binder, Schuyler (Conner) Sanders, Kelsey (Tyler) Binder, Ryan (Taylor) Eckel and great grandchildren Ethan Neville, Maddie Neville, Caden Binder, Jude Eckel and Dawson Eckel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers Stanley, Sidney, Stuart (Joan) and Warren Lane.

Carol Ann Moore of Orland Park, Ill, was born into eternal life with the Lord on the Feast of the Epiphany on Sunday January 7, 2018, with the love and support of family and friends. As the Scripture for that Mass read: “Arise, robe yourself in light, for your Light has come.” (Is 60:1).

Carol was born in Chicago on January 3, 1943, to Leonard and Louise Moore. She dedicated her life to the Lord through generous service to others. She provided loving care to her parents, sisters, brothers-in-law, and friends during illnesses and at death. Read More

Marsha Lynn Keeling, 60, of Tuscola, formerly of Arthur, died at 12:51 a.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Carle Hospital, Urbana.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Shrader Funeral Home, 431 S. Vine Street, Arthur, with Rev. James Dona officiating.  Burial will follow in the Windsor Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Marsha was born December 28, 1957 in Decatur, the daughter of Kenneth Harold  and Cora Jane Gentry Riggs.

She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Jane and Clinton Camic of Windsor; father, Kenneth Harold Riggs, Sr. of N. Carolina; 2 sons, Travis (Stephany) Allen of Tolono; Shane Allen of Tuscola; 2 brothers, Kenneth (Dawne) Riggs, Jr. of Moline; Gregory (Rita) Riggs of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 2 sisters, Theresa (Jim) Miller of Arthur; Margaret Ann Camic of Silvis; 4 grandchildren, Peyton Miller, Logan, Brennan, and Sophia Allen; several nieces and nephews.

Marsha graduated from Arthur High School Class of 1976.  She worked as a CNA at the Arthur Home and also at the Tuscola IGA for several years.  She loved her grandchildren very much.  She was a loving mother, daughter, and sister.  She had many friends that she loved and would have done anything for them.  She always had a smile on her face.

Frances “Frannye” Handley

Frances “Frannye” Handley went to her heavenly home on December 21, 2017. She was born on September 26, 1933, the daughter of Edward and Delores Schroeder, who are both deceased. She married William Handley on November 1, 1963 and they were married for 46 years until his passing in 2009. She is survived by her loving son and daughter-in-law, Curt and Mary Handley of Mokena, IL; her beloved granddaughter and husband, Jacqueline Handley and Nicholas Cora of Canton, MI; her sister and friend, Shirley (Jack) Conlin of Arthur, IL; and many loved sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews.

A devout Lutheran, she was a member of her caring church family at Faith Lutheran Church in Sullivan, IL. She also leaves behind many wonderful friends and neighbors whom she cherished.

In accordance with her wishes, she will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at Reed Funeral Home on Saturday, December 22, 2017. Doors open at 1:30pm with a short service to follow at 2:30pm. Her ashes will be interred alongside her husband in Humboldt, IL in a private ceremony.

Joan R. Newberry, 81, of Lovington passed away 9:40 a.m. Thursday, December 21, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Lovington. Visitation will be held one hour before the services at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Lovington. Burial will be in Keller Cemetery, Lovington. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Joan was born November 27, 1936 in Lovington, the daughter of Kenneth and Ura (Hilton) Randol. She married Glenn E. Newberry on October 4, 1958 in Lovington. Joan was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Tuscola. She was an avid gardener, an energetic grandmother and loved antique collecting and loved her dogs and husband and she was a loving mother.

She is survived by her husband, Glenn; sons, Gary Wayne Newberry of Lovington, Keith Alan (Rhonda) Newberry of Sullivan; and Vernon Lee Newberry of Lovington; brother, Steven (Pam) Randol of Paducah, KY; sisters, Jenene Carlyle of Bethany and Alice (Alan) Ring of Cherry; 2 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Richard Leroy King, 94, of Fort Wayne, Ind., formerly of Decatur and later Sullivan, passed away peacefully December 16, 2107 at Golden Years Homestead in Fort Wayne.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 23 in Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan. The service will be conducted by Ron Collins, longtime pastor and friend. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan with military rites conducted by Sullivan American Legion Post #68.  Read More
