Beulah Lois Harpster, 81, of Sullivan, passed away 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at Deaconess Health System, Evansville, IN.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Smyser Christian Church, rural Gays. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. Burial will take place in the Branch Side Cemetery, rural Gays. Memorials may be made to Smyser Christian Church.

Richard Charles Hortenstine (59) of Gays, IL passed away on August 28th, 2025 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital. Richard was born August 31st, 1965, in Mattoon, IL and was the son of Theodore “Ted” Lee and Annetta May (Walker) Hortenstine. He graduated from Sullivan High School in 1983. Following high school, he graduated from Lake Land College in 1985 where he studied Crop Production & Management. Richard spent most of his career in Ag Retail. His experience spanned from operating the application equipment to seed sales, and farmer interactions. He had a passion for helping people and never knew a stranger.

Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday August 20, 2025 in Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan with Pastor Bob Vail officiating followed by a Celebration of Life Luncheon at the Sullivan American Legion to share stories, memories and to celebrate a life well lived. Carolyn was born July 4, 1938, in Dunn; the daughter of Virgil and Mary Mildred (England) Shipman. She married James E. “Smokey” Doss on July 28, 1957, in Dunn. Smokey preceded her in death on October 21, 2011. She was a member of the Southern Baptist Church in Sullivan. Carolyn worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for many years. She enjoyed traveling, her flowers and loved spending time with her grandchildren. Carolyn had a soft spot for her cat Nana and various other outdoor critters, including a squirrel.
She is survived by her son, James LeRoy Doss of Sullivan; grandchildren, Danielle Doss of Mattoon, Clayton Doss of Sullivan and Synthea Doss of Sullivan; aunts, Wilma Wiley and Marilyn England.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and one great-granddaughter, Harper.
