Danille “Dana” Lacinda Price, 33, of Mattoon passed away at 12:10 p.m. Friday, January 22, 2016 in Carle Hospital in Urbana.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30 in Edwards Funeral Home in Arcola.

Loren E. “Colonel” Jenne, 98, of Springfield, passed away at 8:15 am Tuesday, January 19, 2016 in the Regency in Springfield.

Loren was born Sept. 5, 1917 near Cadwell to Charles and Ella Collins Jenne. He moved with his family to Sullivan where he graduated from high school in 1935. He graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a B.S. in Education in 1940 and began his teaching profession in Alvin, Ill. This was interrupted by W.W. II when he was drafted in June 1941. He became an airplane mechanic and then went to OCS for pilot training in the Army Air Forces. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant and was assigned as a First Lieutenant to fly B-25 Mitchell bombers in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy. After completing 50 bombing missions, he returned to Sullivan in 1943 where he married Hazel J. Carnes Dec. 29, 1943 in the Sullivan United Methodist Church. Loren then resumed his teaching career at Jonathan Creek, Ill. country school and later in Sullivan. He was junior high school principal in Sullivan at Powers, Lowe and the Jr. High School in Sullivan and also served as the Moultrie County Treasurer.  Read More

Robert F. “Bob” Shackles, 76, of Sullivan passed away Saturday Jan. 30, 2016 in St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.

Bob was born April 25, 1939 in Plainview to William Franklin and Nora Schwenke Shackles. He graduated from Southwestern High School in Piasa and went on to serve four years in the Marines. After his military service, he worked several years as a mechanic and then spent the rest of his working life at the light plant in Sullivan until he was disabled in 1992. Read More

Betty R. Gaston, 85, of Sullivan, died at 10:35 p.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2016, in Mason Point in Sullivan.

Private funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home in Windsor. Burial was in Ash Grove Cemetery.

She was born May 11, 1930 in Granite City, a daughter of Ben Boris and Gladys Sutton Rudanovich. She married Thomas A. Gaston September 20, 1947 in Sullivan, and he preceded her in death April 1, 1997. Read More

The Moultrie-Douglas County Fair Pageant will be held Monday, July 27th at 6:00 p.m. for Little Miss Fair Queen and 7:00 p.m. for Miss and Junior Miss Fair Queen located at the south track on the Mo-Do Fairgrounds. Vying for the title of Miss Moultrie Douglas Fair Queen are: Abigail Meyer of Tuscola, Addee Mulligan of Arcola, Sarah Rogers of Atwood, Ava Whitson of Tuscola, Addisyn Wilson of Villa Grove, Emma Spillman of Tuscola, Aymara Leal of Arcola and Katilyn Kirby of Sullivan.
