Jo Ellen Seaman, 66, of Arthur, died at 4:48 a.m. Friday, October 30, 2015 in Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Monday in Arthur United Methodist Church with the Reverends Bruce Weiman and Leroy Allison officiating.  Private interment will be at a later date. Shrader Funeral Home, 431 S. Vine Street in Arthur is assisting the family with arrangements.

Jo Ellen was born February 17, 1949 to Ralph Richard “Bud” and Ellen Jane Hendrickson Seaman.  She was the oldest of five siblings.  Jo attended school in Arthur and furthered her college education at Illinois State, obtaining her Masters in Education.  She began her career in 1971 teaching agriculture in Goodridge, Minnesota, followed by Spring Grove, Minnesota.  She was the first female to teach agriculture in the state of Minnesota.  In 1980 she moved back to her hometown of Arthur and continued teaching.  She taught ag and math in both Arthur and Atwood. He died Saturday Oct. 24, 2015 in Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

He was born March 22, 1937 in Mattoon, a son of Earl Byron and Catheryn Sophie Percival Sinkler.  Read More

Funeral services celebrating his life will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Hillside Bethel Tabernacle, 3575 Greenhill Road in Decatur with the Rev. Don Horath officiating. Visitation will be at the church 6-8 p.m. today (Wednesday). Burial with military rites will be in Keller Cemetery in Lovington. Tanzyus-Logan Funeral Service and Care is in charge of arrangements. Joe A. Dinger, 72, of Decatur passed away Friday, October 16, 2015 in his residence.

A service to celebrate Joe’s life was held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) in Dawson & Wikoff North Chapel in Decatur. Joe will be laid to rest in Salem Cemetery in Decatur.

Joe was born November 11, 1942 in Lovington, a son of Earl and Dolly Wood Dinger. He retired from the Laborers Local 159 in Decatur. Joe enjoyed fishing, especially his yearly fishing trips to Canada with his son and fishing buddies. Read More

Funeral services for Omer D. Helmuth, 75, of Arthur were held at 9 a.m. Monday in HCK West Building in Arthur. Burial was in Otto Cemetery in Arthur.

He died at 11:44 a.m. Friday Oct. 16, 2015 in Chesterville.

Omer D. Helmuth was born Feb. 16, 1940, a son of David J. and Magdalena Bontrager Helmuth. He married Irma J. Graber Sept. 27, 1962, and they lived in holy matrimony for 53 years. Omer was an electrician and mechanical contractor who worked for OE Schrock and Reuben’s Mechanical for 30 years. He was owner of Omer’s Mechanical for the last 15 years. At 75 years of age he was still doing what he loved doing and had an accident on an aerial lift. Omer was a member of the Old Order Amish. Read More

On Route 133 between Lovington and Arthur, power poles fell as a result of the storm systems that hit central Illinois in two waves on Wednesday, June 17th. These storms left many without power and caused widespread damage throughout the area, including confirmed tornado touchdowns in nearby counties.
