William L. “Bill” Fortner, 79, of Dalton City, passed away at 7:40 a.m. Saturday, October 10, 2015, in his home in Dalton City.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Southern Baptist Church in Sullivan. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Bethany.

Bill was born November 30, 1935 in Decatur, a son of Archie W. and Luella M. Ramseyer Fortner. He married Helen E. Walters June 3, 1956 in Dalton City, and she survives. He retired from Union Iron Works in 1996. He was a member of Southern Baptist Church in Sullivan where he was a deacon. He was also a member of the Disaster Relief Team and was a camp host at Whitley Creek. Read More

Graveside services for Brenda K. Beavers, 78, of Mattoon, formerly of Sullivan, were held in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan at 10 a.m. Tuesday with the Reverend Richard Coen officiating. Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home in Mattoon presided over the arrangements.

She passed away at 1:17 p.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2015 in Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon.

Brenda was born February 12, 1937 in Sullivan, a daughter of Robert and Eileen Myers Sullivan. She married Larry Beavers, her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, August 24, 1956 in Sullivan. Read More

Jill was born February 5, 1959 in Reading, England, a daughter of Joseph and Mary Stennett. She had been a caregiver at Titus Manor in Sullivan for more than 10 years. She married Roy Reed September 26, 2003 in Sullivan. Read More

On Route 133 between Lovington and Arthur, power poles fell as a result of the storm systems that hit central Illinois in two waves on Wednesday, June 17th. These storms left many without power and caused widespread damage throughout the area, including confirmed tornado touchdowns in nearby counties.
