Funeral services for Roy C. Barker, 56, of Mattoon, formerly of Sullivan, were held at 1 p.m. Saturday in McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan. Burial will be at a later date.

He passed away at 9:54 a.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2015 in his home in Mattoon.

Roy was born November 7, 1958 in Decatur, the son of Cecil and Lillian England Barker. He married Barbara S. Fugate August 3, 1997 in Allenville. Roy worked for Kull Lumber in Mattoon for 32 years. Roy’s family meant the world to him. He enjoyed cookouts, sitting around the yard, his grandchildren and playing golf.  Read More

Roy C. Barker, 56, of Mattoon, formerly of Sullivan passed away 9:54 a.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2015 in his home, Mattoon.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 26, 2015 at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. before the services Saturday. Burial will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to Sarah Bush Lincoln Cancer Center.

Roy was born November 7, 1958 in Decatur, the son of Cecil and Lillian (England) Barker. He married Barbara S. Fugate on August 3, 1997 in Allenville. Roy worked for Kull Lumber in Mattoon for 32 years. Roy’s family meant the world to him. He enjoyed cookouts, sitting around the yard, his grandchildren and playing golf.

Roy is survived by his wife, Barbara of Mattoon; father, Cecil Barker of Decatur; mother, Lillian Bathe of Sullivan; step-son, David J “DJ” (DJ) Arthur of Mattoon; step-daughter, Beth (Justin) Click of Bethany; sisters, Marsha (Roy) Brumleve of Teutopolis; Debbie Bathe of Sullivan; Lisa (Rodger) Mortez of Mattoon; Terri Bectel of Peoria; grandchildren, Sierra Arthur, Shania Arthur, Shayla Arthur, David Arthur, Peyton Purcell, Dakota Arthur, Destyne Arthur, Dominque Voegel, Delaney Click, and Devon Click. He is also survived by several nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Burrell and Margret Barker and Harold and Edith England and his step-Father David Bathe.

Graveside services for Betty L. Donnell, 84, of Sullivan were held at 11:30 a.m. today (Wednesday) in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan with the Rev. Grant Wade officiating. Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan handled arrangements.

She passed away at 3 a.m. Friday September 18, 2015 in Aspen Creek in Sullivan.

Betty was born April 27, 1931 in Moweaqua, the daughter of Irvin and Naomi Waddell Wicker. She was a member of Sullivan First Christian Church. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, collecting antiques and working in her yard. Betty especially enjoyed the warmth, comfort and laughter that she shared with her friends and family. She married Wilbur E. Donnell March 13, 1948 in Morganfield, Kentucky, and he preceded her in death April 29, 1998.  Read More

Graveside services for Wilma Irene Henderson King were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in French Cemetery in Allenville. McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan handled arrangements.

She passed away at 12:35 a.m. Friday, September 18, 2015 at the age of 93 in Sullivan Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

She was born in Sullivan December 6, 1921 to Hugh and Hazel Henderson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Bud (Betty) Henderson, her first husband Alvie Lee and her second husband William “Bill” King. Throughout her life she was cherished deeply by the many children who considered her as their grandma. Wilma was a lifelong member of the Church of God where she taught Sunday school for much of her adult life.  She loved her family, her church family, gardening and baking delicious pies. Read More

Nancy I. Parks, 77, of Sullivan, passed away at 9:25 p.m. Saturday, September 12, 2015, in St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan.

Nancy was born September 4, 1938 in Omega, a daughter of Douglas and Eileen Holzhausen Marlow. She married Tom Parks June 15, 1957 in Tuscola, and he survives. She worked as a secretary at the General Telephone Company and First United Methodist Church. She was a librarian at Sullivan High School and was an Avon sales woman for more than 30 years. She was a member of First Christian Church in Sullivan. Nancy enjoyed traveling; she was an avid sports fan and always made sure she made it to her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events throughout the years. She truly enjoyed and loved spending time with all of her family.  Read More

On Route 133 between Lovington and Arthur, power poles fell as a result of the storm systems that hit central Illinois in two waves on Wednesday, June 17th. These storms left many without power and caused widespread damage throughout the area, including confirmed tornado touchdowns in nearby counties.
