Edward Linn Voris

News Progress Posted on June 5, 2024 by webmasterJune 5, 2024

Edward Linn Voris

Edward Linn Voris, known affectionately as Linn, passed away peacefully at home in Windsor, Illinois, on June 3, 2024, at the age of 81. Born on December 20, 1942, to Charles Edward and Helen (Wheeler) Voris, Linn's life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and community.

Linn was a devoted husband to Linda Daniels, whom he married in Strasburg on June 11, 1967. Their union was a testament to enduring love, and this year they would have celebrated their 57th anniversary. Linn's legacy continues through his beloved family, including his wife, Linda; son, Derrick (Amber) Voris; daughter-in-law, Ashley Voris and his cherished grandchildren, Patton, Emery, Jordan, and Bailey, all of Windsor. His sister, Tami (Tim) Bragg of Mattoon; two nephews; brothers-in-law, Dennis (Kyoka) Daniels and family of Colorado, and Mike Daniels and family of Strasburg; along with his special friends, Michelle Lovett and Mia of Windsor, survive him. Linn was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, son Jeremy, sister Janis Roney, and special friend Gary Lovett.
Linn's commitment to service was evident through his military service in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Hawaii from 1968-1969 with the 29th Brigade 100th Battalion Company B. During his tenure, he performed the solemn duty of burial detail, laying to rest many of his fallen comrades during the Vietnam war.
After his military service, Linn built a career at Mattoon Precision, from where he eventually retired. His dedication to community service was unparalleled. He was a faithful member of the Windsor United Methodist Church and a 50+ year member of the Windsor American Legion Post 725, serving on the honor guard. His contributions to the Windsor Fire Department were substantial, serving as Fire Chief for eight years during his 50-year tenure. His leadership extended to the Windsor City Council, where he served for 16 years, and as the former President of the Windsor Harvest Picnic. Linn was also a member of the Mattoon Masonic Lodge #260 and the Mattoon Eagles Club.
Linn's love for his hometown was evident to all who knew him. He spent his entire life in the Windsor area, where he was a pillar of the community. His love for his family and friends was matched only by his passion for public service. Linn was the kind of man who left an indelible mark on his community, and his absence will be profoundly felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to HSHS Hospice for their exceptional care during Linn's final months.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on June 10, 2024, at Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest at Windsor Cemetery with military honors performed by the Windsor American Legion Post 725.  Visitation will be held from 3:00-6:00 p.m. on June 9, 2024, at Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home.  Memorials in Linn’s honor may be given to the Windsor United Methodist Church for the Backpack Program, Windsor American Legion Post 725 or HSHS Hospice and mailed to Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home, P.O. Box 54, Windsor, IL 61957.
Family and friends are invited to light a candle or share a story at www.lockartgreenfuneralhome.com.
