Petersen’s Appeal Approved •September 20, 2017• By Mike Brothers Settling a tax dispute with the owners of Mason Point will cost some Moultrie County taxing bodies. Supervisor of Assessments Lori Barringer explained the settlement for tax years 2013-2018 for the Petersen Health Care VIII LLC facility was based on a negotiated $5 million fair market value for the property with a new assessed value of $1,666,500. Mason Point taxes for 2015 should be $153,303.30 including interest. Lake Shelbyville Fish Habitat Alliance Seeks Donations

•September 20, 2017• The Lake Shelbyville Fish Habitat Alliance has been working to restore and enhance the fishery of the lake and preserve its future as a recreational draw to the area, but help is needed. Since the fall of 2016 more than 50 structures, primarily Lake Shelbyville cubes, have been placed in the lake to help develop fish populations. •September 20, 2017• Moultrie County Clerk and Recorder fee increases approved by the Moultrie County Board will go into effect November 1, 2017. County Clerk Georgia England explained that the state of Illinois is implementing flat fee recording January 1, 2019, prompting the need for the cost study performed by Bellwether LLC  and approved by the board Sept. 14. England pointed out the last Cost Study for Moultrie County Clerk and Recorder was in 2003, and the last recording fee increase was in 2008 to comply with the assessor’s office GIS functions. •September 20, 2017• Sullivan blood donors turned out in force at the American Legion in Sullivan Saturday, Sept. 16 as the Sullivan Church of God partnered with Red Cross for an honor drive benefiting River Helmuth with 96 units collected. River is the 18-month-old daughter of Tony and Stephanie Helmuth of Sullivan.
