Soil temperatures at depths of 4 inches under sod averaged 75.8 degrees in Illinois during the first half of August, 1.2 degrees below the long-term average and 4.0 degrees lower than the same period in 2016. According to the Moultrie County treasurer’s office, the Shopko tax bill for Tax Year 2016 payable in 2017 was $59,808.18. Supervisor of Assessments Lori Barringer explained the Moultrie County Assessment Office assessed the former Shopko property in Tax Year 2016 with an assessed value of $604,270. He said that the district received another installment from the mandated categorical payments, although, they were still short about $200,000.
