Sparrows Toy Run in Sept.
•August 16, 2017• Sparrows of Lovington is celebrating 23 years of giving to Lovington families. Sparrow’s Toy Run starts with sign ups at Post 429 Lovington American Legion 10:30 a.m.-noon Saturday, Sept. 30. Stops along the way include the Toy Bar in Sullivan, Shamrock in Dalton City, TimBukTu in Long Creek, Cerro Gordo American Legion, Rusty’s in LaPlace with the final stop at Jerry’s East End in Lovington. •August 16, 2017• Sam Scott of the class of 1964 is the Bethany Alumni Wall of Fame inductee. To be nominated the individual must have been a graduate of Bethany, Findlay, or Okaw Valley. Nominations are based on an individual’s contribution to society and community, the betterment of mankind or occupational/endeavor recognition. Scott earned his degree in finance at Colorado State University in 1968 and a graduate degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1980. 25 Years Ago This Week The village of Bethany approved installation of 20 feet of guardrail to curb an ongoing traffic problem at the Charles Bland residence near the Depot. The Bethany Education Assn. filed a letter of intent to strike following a meeting between the group, the school board and a federal mediator. The 130 foot tall smokestack from the old Brown Shoe Building in Sullivan was pulled down. Stanley Sanders Stanley Charles Sanders, 67, of Tampa, Florida, formerly of Sullivan, passed away at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, August 3, 2017 in Tampa. There are no services planned at this time. Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan is assisting the family. Stan was born March 10, 1950 in Decatur, a son of Charles and Patricia Sanders. He was salutatorian of the Sullivan High School class of 1968 and attended the University of Illinois and Bradley University. He had previously worked for AT&T in Florida. … Read More
