Driving Too Fast Put Several Off Road

•February 17, 2016• Illinois State Police District 10 handled a variety of incidents over the Valentine’s Day weekend. According to trooper and media liaison for Distrtict 10 Tracy Lillard, the totals for Sunday, February 14 include 34 traffic crashes and 120 incidents (including cars in the ditch, motorist assists, and calls for service). The major contributor for the crashes and vehicles in the ditch continues to be speed. Traveling too fast for conditions, even with one-three inches of snowfall and high winds, results in crashes. State Receives Extension for Federal Disaster Declaration

Deadline for request is now Feb. 26 •February 17, 2016• The state of Illinois this week requested and received an extension for submitting a request to the federal government for a major disaster declaration related to severe storms and flooding in late December and early January. The original deadline for such submission was Feb. 12. The state now has until Feb. 26 to request federal assistance. “In some parts of the state, floodwaters only recently subsided to the point where we were able to accurately document the damages,” said James K. Ballots available online •February 17, 2016• By Mike Brothers Specimen ballots for the March 15, 2016 General Primary Election are published as a special insert with the Wednesday, February 17 edition of the News Progress. Included are both the Republican and Democratic specimen ballots along with one property sale proposition affecting the voters of Arthur. This is the first year for the Unisyn Optical Scan and Touch Screen tabulating equipment.
