Arcola Takes Home Win Over Knights

•February 17, 2016• Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond’s Knights traveled to Arcola Friday, Feb 5 with the Purple Riders taking the win 59-43. First quarter action found the Arcola team ahead 20-9 followed by a Knight tied second quarter at 9-9. The Purple Riders started the third quarter with a 29-18 edge. Arcola scored a 16-11 third quarter with the Knights scoring 14-14 in the fourth. The Purple Riders came away with the 59-43 win. Village of Lovington Approves Fireworks Plan

•February 17, 2016• The village of Lovington January board action included approval for the village to spend $6000 toward July 3 fireworks. This motion was approved following discussion to include Jake Kamm, representative of the fireworks company, was requested by trustees Dennis Garmon and April Daily to be on the agenda. Village president Jim Minor said discussions with Shelly Martina and trustee Pam Anklam indicated about $3500 could be raised to help fund the fireworks. Percussion Ensemble ‘Synergy’ Explores Music and Sports

•February 17, 2016• Millikin University’s Chamber Percussion Ensembles will present its annual Synergy Concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21 in Kirkland Fine Arts Center; admission is free. Synergy showcases the distinctiveness of Millikin’s ubiquitous, interdisciplinary alliances through a collaborative concert featuring performances by students and faculty across the College of Fine Arts. This year’s program will explore the unique relationship between music and sports. EI Foodbank Distribution is at VFW

•February 17, 2016• Monsanto and Eastern Illinois Foodbank are teaming up to distribute a truckload of food from the Eastern Illinois Foodbank to hungry area families. The distribution will be held at Sullivan VFW (1146 State Highway 32, Sullivan) 10 a.m.-noon March 12. All Moultrie County residents who meet income eligibility criteria are welcome (see below). Those attending are asked to bring bags or boxes to transport food. A representative from Eastern Illinois Foodbank will be present to assist families and individuals interested in applying for SNAP benefits. Illinois Sheriff’s Association Announces Scholarships

•February 17, 2016• Moultrie County Sheriff Chris Sims will be awarding $500 scholarships as part of the Illinois Sheriff’s Association annual college scholarship program. ISA will award $54,000 in scholarships throughout the state during the 2016-2017 academic year to students wishing to pursue higher education. Scholarships are applied to tuition, books and fees only, and the student must be enrolled full-time at a certified institution of higher learning within the state of Illinois. … Read More

County Board Ratifies Corrections Contract

Das Clubhaus License Approved  •February 17, 2016• by Mike Brothers Following an executive session discussion Moultrie County Board members ratified a three year contract with county corrections officers. Included in provisions for the new agreement was a three percent salary increase over the contract period. An additional provision was if a corrections employee left county employment before one year of service, 100 percent of the training cost would be reimbursed the county. Okaw Valley Take Knights by One Point in Bethany

•February 17, 2016• Only one point separated Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond from Okaw Valley in Bethany February 9, and the 49-48 win went to the home team. The Knights had a strong first half outscoring the Timberwolves 11-6 in the first quarter and 16-11 in the second quarter. ALAH started the third quarter ahead 27-17. The Timberwolves came on strong in the third quarter with a 15-9 run over the Knights. Okaw Valley scored 17 to Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond’s 12 in the fourth to win the game 49-48.
