Okaw Valley Drama Club Hosts Potato Bar

•February 10, 2016• The Okaw Valley High School Drama Club will host a potato bar dinner before the OVHS boys’ basketball game 5-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 16. The menu will include baked potato with topping choices of taco meat, chili, broccoli, cheese, sour cream, bacon and chives, a variety of dessert choices and tea and lemonade. The OV Timberwolves will play the Argenta-Oreana Bombers and will also be celebrating senior night for the boys’ basketball team, cheerleaders and band.  … Read More

Diane Hollonbeck Diane Kay Hollonbeck, 67, of Sullivan passed away at 12:05 p.m. Friday, February 5, 2016 in Mason Point in Sullivan. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan. Burial was in French Cemetery in Allenville. Diane was born September 12, 1948 in Decatur, a daughter of Hue Tim and Ruth Rosetta Moran Crowe. Diane worked for the Secretary of State in Springfield, GE in Mattoon and as a hairdresser. Delayed Fitness Review for Yost

•February 10, 2016• Michael Yost appeared in Moultrie County Circuit Court Monday, Feb 8, where public defender Brad Rau requested cross examination of Dr. Lawrence Jeckel concerning the accused murder defendant’s fitness for trial. Dr. Jeckel, a Champaign psychiatrist, submitted a report following his examination of Yost January 20.  Rau’s request to question the doctor about the report was granted by Judge Dan L. Flannell. Dr. Jeckel is set to testify at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 2. Yost, 41, appeared at the hearing and was returned to the county jail following scheduling. •February 10, 2016• January students of the month At Okaw Valley are sophomore Hannah Landreth, daughter of Justin and Tai Landreth and freshman Garrett Tippit, son of Fred Tippit. Landreth is involved in Drama Club, Art Club, Science Club, FFA and is press secretary of Student Council, treasurer of FCCLA and treasurer of the sophomore class. Sullivan Blue Dolphins Give to VA Hospital

•February 10, 2016• By Jason Smith for the News Progress Each year the Blue Dolphin swim team takes a break from the water to give back to the community. This year they chose to give to the veterans hospitalized at VA in Danville. One hundred seventy-six toothbrushes, 115 denture cleaners, 45 bottles of shampoo, 45 bath towels, 19 toasters and 15 coffee pots are just some of the 818 items the Sullivan Blue Dolphins collected which were delivered to the hospital Feb. 2. Moultrie County Inter-Agency Gives in Many Ways

Established in 1981 to help those in need, the Sullivan based agency helps in various ways. Needs the agency meets include utility assistance for elderly and disabled, rent assistance, emergency shelter such as a hotel room if need be, food, car repair, prescriptions, pest control, and other situations deemed suitable for assistance. Senior Night Win for Okaw Valley

•February 10, 2016• It was senior night in Bethany with the Okaw Valley Timberwolves winning over Decatur LSA 50-29. Honored seniors include guard Gretchen Macklin and forward Devan Nave. Okaw Valley started strong with a 14-8 first quarter. The Timberwolves continued the pace with a 16-9 second quarter, putting the Okaw Valley girls’ team ahead 30-17 at the half. LSA’s Lions scored eight points to Okaw Valley’s 12 in the third. In the fourth quarter it was 8-4 Timberwolves for the 50-29 win.
