More County Flood Damage

•February 10, 2016• Additional flood damage on Moultrie County roads and bridges increased to $180,000 county engineer Jeff Birch told the Road and Bridge committee February 8. That amount is added to the total county damage claim filed earlier with the Illinois Emergency Services and Disaster Agency. “Once the water went down we discovered six bridges with erosion damage.” Birch explained that the county could  submit labor costs related to debris removal which assured the county’s qualification for disaster relief. Bombers Beat Knights

•February 3, 2016• The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Knights met Argenta-Oreana in tournament play at Decatur LSA on January 26. The Bombers came out on top 45-23 ALAH and Argenta-Oreana scored 7-8 first quarter. The second quarter found the Knights outscored 12-3, heading into the half time 20-10, Argenta-Oreana’s lead. The Bombers had a strong 17-4 third quarter. ALAH scored 9-8 in the final quarter, leaving Argenta Oreana with the 45-23 win. … Read More

Trial Fitness Review for Yost

•February 3, 2016• A status hearing determining whether Michael S. Yost is fit to be tried for the March 4, 2015 murder of Sheri Randall is set for 1:30 p.m. Monday, February 8 . In December Chief Circuit Judge Dan Flannell agreed to allow Yost, 41, be evaluated by Champaign psychiatrist Dr. Lawrence Jeckel. That report was completed, presented to Moultrie County Circuit Court January 20 and impounded from outside review. January Had Swinging Temps

•February 3, 2016• Illinois temperatures in January showed some very large swings in which the highs and lows tended to cancel each other out, with a monthly temperature of 26.7 degrees, or just 0.3 degrees above average, according to Illinois State Climatologist Jim Angel, Illinois State Water Survey, University of Illinois. The first nine days of the month were above average, followed by four days below average, then three days above average. Young Artists, Guest Conductor to Lead MDSO Performance

•February 3, 2016• The Millikin-Decatur Symphony Orchestra (MDSO) will continue its 2015-16 performance season at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6 in Kirkland Fine Arts Center. The performance on Feb. 6 is the first of two guest-conducted concerts featuring one of the finalists for the position of music director and conductor of the MDSO.
