Meridian Hawks Take Home a Win

•January 27, 2016• The Meridian Hawks came to Sullivan January 19 taking home a 53-42 win over the Redskins. Coach Chester Reeder noted Sullivan showed strength on the backboards pulling down 27, with Ty Molzen and Zach Hrvol getting seven each. The Hawks had 23 rebounds with Kircher leading with six. The New Year is off and running, and the Farm Bureau on a county, state, and national level is staying very active. On a national level, The American Farm Bureau Federation is in the middle of their Annual Meeting which is held from January 8-13 in Orlando, Florida. Just like the Illinois Farm Bureau, the AFBF meets once a year to look and decide on policies and resolutions that make up the organization. •January 27, 2016• Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Knights brought home a 48-40 win from Arcola January 25. The Knights started the first quarter with the starting five getting on the board with 14 points to the Arcola Purple Riders 10 points. Second quarter went in Arcola’s favor scoring 13-6, giving the Riders a 23-20 edge at the half. ALAH Knights Hold Sangamon Valley Down for a Win

•January 27, 2016• Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Knights held Sangamon Valley at bay January 23 with a 49-38 win in LOVC action. The Knights were 44 percent from the field with 16-36 while the Storm shot 14-45 for 31 percent. ALAH made one three point shot to Sangamon Valley’s 0. City Seeks Housing Improvement Grants

•January 27, 2016• By Ariana Cherry For the News Progress Kevin McReynolds, housing manager for Coles County Regional Planning and Development Commission, presented the Sullivan City Council with a housing grant opportunity during the January 11 council meeting. The grants are available for single family owner occupied homes and up to $45,000 may be spent for home improvement repairs such as replacing the roof, furnace, electrical and windows. Public Invited to Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper

•January 27, 2016• Plans are underway for the second annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper at First United Methodist Church in Sullivan. This February 9 event marks the end of Mardi Gras and the anticipation of Lent, which begins the next day on Ash Wednesday. Knights Hold Off Titans for the Win

•January 27, 2016• The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Knights held off the Tri-County Shiloh Titans for a 54-51 win January 23. The Titans were up 16-14 at the end of the first quarter. A 22-6 second quarter let Tri-Co Shiloh go into the half trailing the Knights 28-22. The Titans came from the half with a 11-9 third quarter while the Knights still led. Tri-Co put a 20-15 effort over ALAH in the fourth with the Knights remaining on top 54-51.
