Southern Illinois Women’s Economic Summit Coming to Effingham

Training Gap Addressed by No Job Left Behind

On Sept. 18 representatives of No Job Left Behind from Coles, Douglas, Shelby and Moultrie counties gathered at Faith Lutheran Church in Sullivan to find out how to best meet that demand. Lady Reds Face Tuscola in First Conference Match

•September 23, 2015• The Lady Redskins hosted Tuscola Thursday, Sept 17 for the first conference volleyball match up. Tuscola’s powerful front line proved too much for Sullivan, winning 12-25 and 15-25. “Our defense did a great job of picking up the hits,” coach Krista Smith said noting they also made several good volleys. “As a team we did better at covering tips and dumps tonight,” she continued. “We look forward to using this as an opportunity to strengthen our offense and build on positive teamwork.” In the effort Alyssa Marshall had three kills and 14 digs for the Lady Redskins. … Read More

Monticello Wins over Sullivan Volleyball

•September 23, 2015• Sullivan Redskins volleyball team traveled to Monticello Tuesday, Sept 15 with the home team taking wins in varsity and junior varsity action. Varsity games were 14-25 and 15-25 Monticello. Junior varsity 9-25 and 21-25 Monticello. Jail Death Under Investigation

•September 23, 2015• A Sullivan man held on federal charges was pronounced dead by coroner Lynn Reed at the Moultrie County Jail at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday. Reed said the death is under investigation. Moultrie County Sheriff Chris Sims said the death while in custody was believed to be self inflicted. Illinois State Police Criminal Investigators and Crime Scene investigators are conducting a full investigation of the scene. In July  Justen W. Citizens Receive Blood Drive Pins

•September 23, 2015• The Red Cross blood drive held at the Sullivan Church of God this month had two longtime donors receiving donation pins. Joe Pound of Sullivan received his 11 gallon pin which equals the donation of 88 units of blood, and Mike McDaniel, also of Sullivan, received a pin for donating nine gallons of blood since he was 23 years of age. Foodmobile Comes to Sullivan Oct. 3

•September 23, 2015• A distribution by Eastern Illinois Foodbank will be held 9 a.m-noon Oct. 3 at Sullivan VFW. All Moultrie County residents who meet income eligibility criteria are welcome (see below). Those attending are asked to bring bags or boxes to transport food. A representative from Eastern Illinois Foodbank will be present to assist families and individuals interested in applying for SNAP benefits. The Foodmobile distribution comes at a critical moment for area residents. Planters Gain Attention

An idea that blossomed •September 23, 2015• It began as a project by the Restoration and Enhancement Committee this year and recently drew the attention of a local botanist. Roger Kirkwood, retired director of Lake of the Woods Botanical Gardens in Mahomet, not only noticed the planters located around the square in Sullivan but wrote Sullivan mayor Ann Short. “What a pleasant and unexpected surprise,” Kirkwood began his letter. “Immediately attention getting, these planters are obviously well designed and well maintained.
