Mediacom offers $60,000 in scholarships

•February 19, 2025• Mediacom Communications is offering $60,000 in scholarship support for high school seniors who plan to obtain further education. The scholarship program is in its 24th consecutive year and Mediacom’s investment will award $1,000 World Class Scholarships to 60 high school seniors.   Starting in the fall of 2025, scholarship recipients have the flexibility to use the financial awards to support post-secondary college costs or vocational training from an accredited institution. Award selection is based on academic achievement and leadership accomplishments. Scholarship applications available

•February 19, 2025• Applications are now available for the 2025 Irrevocable Scholarship Program available through the Sullivan American Legion Post 68. The one year $1,500 (four year, annually renewable) scholarship is for high school seniors who will be graduating from public high schools in Moultrie County and high school seniors that are descendants of members in good standing of the Sullivan Post 68. Allied Capital Title donates to SBL Regional Cancer Center

Allied Capital Title offices of Charleston, Mattoon, Shelbyville, Tuscola and Sullivan recently donated $640 to the SBL Health Foundation to support patients receiving care at the SBL Regional Cancer Center. During the month of October, the offices donated a portion of closing costs to the Regional Cancer Center. 2024 Moultrie County final multiplier announced

•February 12, 2025• Moultrie County has been issued a final property assessment equalization factor of 1.0000, according to David Harris, director of the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR). The property assessment equalization factor, often called the “multiplier,” is the method used to achieve uniform property assessments among counties, as required by law. This equalization is particularly important because some of the state’s 6,600 local taxing districts overlap into two or more counties (e.g., school districts, junior college districts, fire protection districts). If there was no equalization among counties, substantial inequities among taxpayers with comparable properties would result. … Read More

On Route 133 between Lovington and Arthur, power poles fell as a result of the storm systems that hit central Illinois in two waves on Wednesday, June 17th. These storms left many without power and caused widespread damage throughout the area, including confirmed tornado touchdowns in nearby counties.
