Godfrey to Speak About First Novel March 2

February 18, 2015 Former Arthur Junior High English and high school speech teacher Judy Godfrey will be in Sullivan Monday, March 2 for the Fortnightly Book Club’s special event as a guest speaker. Godfrey will talk about her first novel titled “Finding Rose”. The event will be held at the Sullivan Elizabeth Titus Library from 6-8 p.m. and will include a book signing. Godfrey, who currently lives in Branson, Mo., will also have a book signing at the Arthur Public Library 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 5. The public is invited to both events. … Read More

February 18, 2015 By Jim Nowlan Outside Columnist A columnist for Forbes magazine declared in 2012 that Illinois, among several states, is in a fiscal “death spiral” that results from high taxation combined with population and business flight. Other observers have picked up the term. In March, the Illinois Supreme Court hears an appeal by the state attorney general and several business-oriented groups to a decision last year that struck down an act that would reduce the growth in pension payments to government retirees. February 18, 2015 Difficulties with typing and time allotted, cited by Ariana Cherry Arthur/Sullivan Reporter There wasn’t much good to be said for the new standardized test that is slated to replace both the ISAT and PSAE this spring at Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond’s monthly school board meeting last Wednesday. “The tests are time consuming. It takes a lot of preparation and scheduling. All the tests are done online, and we have 27 computers, 37 Chrome Books. We test over an eight day period in grades three through eight. Sheriffs’ Association Announces Scholarships

February 18, 2015 The Illinois Sheriffs’ Association announces that it will be awarding more than $53,000 in college scholarships throughout the state of Illinois to students wishing to pursue higher education during the 2015-2016 academic year. The scholarships are to be applied to tuition, books and fees only. The student must be enrolled full-time at a certified institution of higher learning within the state of Illinois.
