1964 The Headquarters and Headquarter Company, second Brigade, 33rd Infantry Division, stationed at Sullivan armory, received a superior rating on the annual Federal Inspection. Miss Merry Christmas for the season is MiMi Monroe, senior at Sullivan High School. Sullivan’s Civic Center took additional shape as the main roof beams set into place. 2024 Moultrie County tentative multiplier announced

•December 4, 2024• Moultrie County has been issued a tentative property assessment equalization factor of 1.0000, according to David Harris, director of the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR).   The property assessment equalization factor, often called the “multiplier,” is the method used to achieve uniform property assessments among counties, as required by law. This equalization is particularly important because some of the state’s 6,600 local taxing districts overlap into two or more counties (e.g., school districts, junior college districts, fire protection districts). If there was no equalization among counties, substantial inequities among taxpayers with comparable properties would result.  … Read More

Lovington elects new board president

•December 4, 2024• by Sharon Barricklow After the resignation last month of Lovington Village Board President Dennis Jarman the Lovington Village Board held a special meeting last week and elected Brittany Bates Village President. Bates had been serving as parks commissioner for the village. Board member April Daily questioned Bates’ qualifications for the job, calling into questioned Bates’ current status with her cosmetology license. City decides on new truck for storm sewer emergencies

Nativities on display

Enjoy Nativity displays at the First United Methodist Church in Sullivan, across from firehouse. On December 14 and 15 there will be several privately owned nativities on displays in the sanctuary and other areas within the church. The public is welcome to come and view these displays from noon to 3:00 p.m. each day. Donations will be accepted and proceeds will benefit the local ministries in Sullivan. … Read More

On Route 133 between Lovington and Arthur, power poles fell as a result of the storm systems that hit central Illinois in two waves on Wednesday, June 17th. These storms left many without power and caused widespread damage throughout the area, including confirmed tornado touchdowns in nearby counties.
