Heart of Illinois Community Foundation awards grants

Submitted   Moultrie County celebrated two exceptional community initiatives recently as part of the Heart of Illinois Community Foundation’s Impact200 Grant Program. In partnership with Decatur Earthmover Credit Union, the Heart of Illinois Community Foundation awarded $200,000 to local nonprofits at a special reception recognizing the transformative power of philanthropy. Sullivan Fire and Ambulance District donates to SBL

The Sullivan Fire and Ambulance District recently donated $580 to the Sarah Bush Lincoln Regional Cancer Center in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  The shirts sold by the Sullivan Fire and Ambulance District are pictured. City council approves electric rate hikes

by Sharon Barricklow Sullivan residents will be paying four percent more for their electrical service after a rate hike was passed Thursday night by the Sullivan City Council. Commissioner Mike Kirk said the across the board four percent increase was needed because Ameren Illinois, who sells the city power, had increased their rates.  “This is just their rate that is being passed through to us,” he said.  The rate increase does not affect municipal or state taxes on power bills.  … Read More

The next Christmas blessing

The Village of Bethany is feeling the warm spirit of Christmas quite early this year, having created a chance for local residents and those within Moultrie to nominate someone in the community in need of a Christmas Miracle. Free laundry day

The Moultrie Shelby County ROSC is partnering with ACE Hardware to provide the community with a free laundry day at the Rainbow Wash House, 809 W Jackson Street, Sullivan. Funded by the Illinois Department of Human Services, Division of Substance Use Prevention and Recovery, the community will have access to free laundry on December 5th starting at nine. On Route 133 between Lovington and Arthur, power poles fell as a result of the storm systems that hit central Illinois in two waves on Wednesday, June 17th. These storms left many without power and caused widespread damage throughout the area, including confirmed tornado touchdowns in nearby counties.
