•August 21, 2024• The Sullivan Blue Dolphin Swim Team will be hosting swim team tryouts for children ages 5 and up on Monday, August 26th at five at the Sullivan Civic Center, 600 N Washington Street. There will be an information and check-in table set up in the lobby. Each swimmer trying out will need to be checked for the ability to make it across the pool in less than a minute in any form, do a forward flip into the water, no fear of water, put face in water and blow bubbles and follow instructions. Sullivan golf ready to go despite weather delaying the season opener

•August 21, 2024• by E. Scott England Last year, the Sullivan Golf team advanced both a boy golfer and girl golfer to the two-day state golf tournament. Brett Bushue earned 50th place in the tournament. Shae Ellis placed 38th. Bushue has graduated, Ellis is returning for her senior year. Bushue wasn’t the only senior to vacate a spot on the course. Daniel Downs and Maverick Palmer have also graduated. Hannah Righter, Ava Shriver, and Ruby Haegen did as well. 2014 Moultrie Independent Telephone Company recently awarded Aaron Fleming, a junior at Millikin University and a 2012 graduate of Lovington High School, a $1,500 academic scholarship funded by the Fund for Rural Education and Development, or FRED, which is a national charitable foundation located in Washington, D.C. Samantha Fenton of Sullivan has received a certificate of recognition and a monetary award to pursue educational training. Fenton is currently a Certified Nurse Assistant and plans to further her career in the medical field and become a Licensed Practical Nurse by attending Lake Land College.  … Read More

The MCHD to offer “Caregiver Stress-Busting”

•August 21, 2024• by Angela Hogan The Moultrie County Health Department (MCHD) is pleased to offer “Caregiver Stress-Busting.” This program is offered to support family and other non-paid caregivers who care for an individual living with dementia. Two trained facilitators lead the program, which focuses on education, support, problem-solving, and stress management. As a result, participating caregivers learn how to recognize and address their emotional, physical, spiritual, and cognitive needs.  Participants will meet weekly on Thursday afternoons, September 5 – October 31, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the MCHD offices, located at 202 S. City Council changes meeting dates

•August 21, 2024• by Sharon Barricklow Sullivan City Council meetings are moving from the first and third Thursdays to the second and fourth Thursday after a vote Thursday night by the council. Mayor Mike Mossman said changing the meeting dates will give city employees more time to complete actions including getting the city’s bills ready for payment by council vote. “It will just make everything go more smoothly,” he said. On Route 133 between Lovington and Arthur, power poles fell as a result of the storm systems that hit central Illinois in two waves on Wednesday, June 17th. These storms left many without power and caused widespread damage throughout the area, including confirmed tornado touchdowns in nearby counties.
