ALAH BOE Approves Tentative Tax Levy

•December 6, 2023• by Ariana R Cherry The ALAH Board of Education approved a tentative tax levy at their school board meeting Wednesday. November 15. The tax levy was figured at 5.6%. Since the levy is over 5%, it will require the board to have a Truth and Taxation hearing. While the levy is over 5%, it still is considerably lower than last year’s which was 9%. Sullivan Superintendent Reflects on School Report Card Results for District

•December 6, 2023• by Crystal Reed The Illinois State Board of Education recently released report cards for districts in the state, rating districts on a variety of categories from socioeconomic status and attendance rates to truancy and proficiency in math, science and other subjects. Sullivan Superintendent Ted Walk stated that the report cards are an important piece of what is going on in a district, but the more important part is what is done in classrooms each day. Tentative Multiplier Announced

•December 6, 2023• Moultrie County has been issued a tentative property assessment equalization factor of 1.0000, according to David Harris, Director of the Illinois Department of Revenue. The property assessment equalization factor, often called the “multiplier”, is the method used to achieve uniform property assessments among counties, as required by law. This equalization is particularly important because some of the state’s 6,600 local taxing districts overlap into two or more counties (e.g. school districts, junior college districts, fire protection districts). Tickets are $25 and the winner will receive two tickets to the game of their choice (of available tickets at time of drawing) during the 2023-24 Illinois men’s basketball season. •December 6, 2023• Sullivan FCCLA will have Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December 9 from 8 to 10 am at the SHS commons. Breakfast will include two pancakes per person and drink choices of hot chocolate, coffee, juice or milk. The Bethany Advocates and Support Organization hosted its annual car show on August 22 at Crowder Park. The perfect afternoon weather bought out 52 entries and many enthusiastic onlookers. Greg Fitzgerald’s 1966 Pontiac GTO took home Best off Show honors.
