•October 11, 2023• 3rd from 10-11 am.  We are trying something new for the adult craft time. The craft will be a “Thankful Tree”. We are asking that you bring your own supplies for this one. The supplies are sticks from your yard, pinecones or other natural scraps, an empty jar or vase, and scraps of colored paper. 3rd from 3:30-4:30 is kids craft time. 2013  Jackie Godfrey’s passion for helping other shone when she and other members of the First Baptist Church in Sullivan collected pajamas and stuffed animals for children in DOVE shelters. It was First Baptist’s largest project to date.  Grant Wade, who had been the family pastor at First Christian Church in Sullivan for three years was called on to become Senior Pastor. City Council Approve Ordinance Regarding Public Parks in the City

•October 11, 2023• by Crystal Reed The Sullivan City Council approved an ordinance regarding prohibiting uses of public parks in the city during their regular meeting on Monday. At a previous meeting in September, Mayor Mike Mossman noted there had been people trying to live in the park. He said in the past that had happened, but this year it has happened twice. If shelter space is available and a person refuses to go, they will be cited. Harvest to Home Event Held at IAHC

•October 11, 2023• by Crystal Reed The Illinois Amish Heritage Center hosted their Harvest to Home event this past weekend. The purpose of the show is to teach attendees how crops were grown and harvested during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. One of the highlights of Friday’s activities according to Levi Yoder was that corn was harvested and shelled then ground into cornmeal. The cornmeal was then made into cornbread. Ward Casteel Ward Casteel, 71, of Lovington, passed away Friday October 6, 2023 in his residence. Celebration of Life services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 12, 2023 in the Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until service time on Thursday. Burial will be in the Keller Cemetery, Lovington with military honors by the Lovington American Legion. Memorials are suggested to the Lovington Ambulance Service or to the Arthur Ambulance Service. Temporary Recreation Area Closings

•October 4, 2023• The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will hold a youth deer hunt at Lake Shelbyville on October 7 & 8, 2023. The hunt will be conducted in portions of recreation areas previously closed for the season. As a safety precaution, Sullivan Beach, Whitley Creek Recreation Area, Coon Creek & Opossum Creek campgrounds, and the entire Wilborn Creek park will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic from 2:00 p.m. October 6, 2023, until 8:00 p.m. October 8, 2023.
