•October 18, 2023• Okaw Valley Community Unit School District invites all Veterans and their family members to a Veterans Day program at Okaw Valley High School in Bethany on Friday, November 10th. A breakfast will be provided to all who attend beginning at 8:15 am in the cafeteria and a short assembly will follow at 9:15am. The assembly will feature the Okaw Valley School District band and chorus students, and keynote speaker. Trick or Treat Activities

•October 18, 2023• Bethany: BASO’s annual Safe Trick or Treat will be on Saturday, October 28 from 4 to 6 pm on Main Street in Bethany. Several local businesses will have activity booths, games and of course candy. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to the Village of Bethany Police Station garage. There will also be a chalk art contest hosted by Bricks and Bones during the event at 121 E. Main Street. Winner will get a $50 gift card. VFW Essay Contests Deadline Approaching

•October 11, 2023• The local VFW Post 6410 in Sullivan is announcing that the entry deadline for the Patriots Pen Essay Contest and Voice of Democracy Contest is at the end of this month. Students in sixth through eighth grade can participate in the Patriots Pen essay contest and students in 9th through 12th can participate in the Voice of Democracy contest. The top three winners will move on to the district level with a chance to win and move on to the state judging. Sullivan Homecoming Celebrated Sullivan celebrated their Homecoming last week with activities including dress up days, a dance, football game and a parade. The parade route was lined with observers including children waiting to rush out and grab candy thrown by people on the floats, golf carts and cars that proceeded down the route. The Moultrie-Douglas County Fair Pageant will be held Monday, July 27th at 6:00 p.m. for Little Miss Fair Queen and 7:00 p.m. for Miss and Junior Miss Fair Queen located at the south track on the Mo-Do Fairgrounds. Vying for the title of Miss Moultrie Douglas Fair Queen are: Abigail Meyer of Tuscola, Addee Mulligan of Arcola, Sarah Rogers of Atwood, Ava Whitson of Tuscola, Addisyn Wilson of Villa Grove, Emma Spillman of Tuscola, Aymara Leal of Arcola and Katilyn Kirby of Sullivan.
