County Board Hears how Local Fire Departments Utilized ARPA Funds

During the guest speaker portion of the meeting, the board was able to hear from representatives of Sullivan Fire, Lovington Fire and Bethany Fire Departments and Moultrie County Habitat for Humanity in regards to how the organizations utilized their ARPA funds.  Sullivan Assistant Fire Chief Chris Wright reported they received a ARPA grant in 2022. Over the past couple of years they have helped multiple families with their yards, partnered with the food pantry and brought a blessing box to the town. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced the names of more than 16,000 semifinalists in the 69th annual National Merit Scholarship Program last week. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,140 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will be offered next spring. David Kirk Bowers David Kirk Bowers, 73, of Paris, Illinois, passed away at 2:03 a.m. EDT Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington, Indiana. He was an engineer with the former Midwest Body Corporation and had previously worked at MECO. He later worked for many years in auto sales with Burger Dodge and Vigo Dodge of Terre Haute, Indiana.
